SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY CO MMITTEE
Call to Order
Chairperson Greer Payton called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

New Business
GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER
Staff gave an overview of the plans for the Gala Banquet event and Open House marking the grand opening of the
new Dublin Senior Center. The staff announced the scheduled dates for the Gala.Event and the Open House,
subject to City Council's approval at the Tuesday, June 7 City Council Meeting. The Gala event is to be held on
Thursday, August'4, and the Open House on Saturday, August 6, 2005. The new Senior Center's first day of
operation is planned for Monday,August 8.
Staff announced that the existing Senior Center will officially close its doors on Friday,July 15 at 4:00 p.m. and the
Center's services will be unavailable until Monday,August 8,when the new Center opens. .The only exception will
be the Las Positas Community College classes which will continue at the old Center until the new Center opens.
During the week of July 18, Staff will box files and items to be moved to the new Senior Center.
The Planning Committee for the Gala Event met on Friday, May 28. Staff and Committee Members consisted of
Colette Vukasovich from the Dublin Senior Foundation, and Greer Payton and Al Edge from the Advisory
Committee. Paul McCreary, Anna Hudson, Camille Centeno and Lorri Polon were the Staff who attended the
meeting.
The Committee discussed several ideas and components of the Gala event.
• The cruise theme was selected. Staff asked the Foundation to help solicit sponsors and donations to offset
the high cost of the gala opening and reduced cost of tickets.
• The Foundation will also sell sandstone tiles for the Foundation Donor Walls which is located in the
pre-function area.
• The maximum number of ticket sales is 248. It was suggested that the tickets be sold for $25 per seniors,
55 years and older. The price of a ticket for people 55 years and younger will be $45 per person, or$80 per .
couple. Tables for up to 8 persons may be reserved for up to eight people. Dress attire will be cocktail
wear. The cost of the ticket includes several commemorative items, a photo, entertainment, hors
d'oeuvres, special drink, a grand buffet dinner, and casino play.

CM Barbara Gifford shared her idea of using ships bells to make announcements. CM Hans Berg expressed interest
in serving as an alternate member for the Planning Committee of the Gala Event. In response to planning the
entertainment, CM Hans Berg recommended that Staff contact the Steel Drum Director of Chabot College. CM
Berg offered lending a ships wheel as a prop for the commemorative photo.
Paul McCreary encouraged all Committee Members to share their ideas with Staff to help with the success of the
event. CM Greer Payton suggested that one of the giveaways should be chocolate bars wrapped in a special cover
depicting the new Senior Center.
The Open House will be held on Saturday,August 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will begin with a walk
which begins from the existing Senior Center to the new Senior Center,will be led by Mayor Lockhart and the City
Council members starting at 10:30 a.m. A ribbon-cutting is scheduled at 11:00 a.m. followed by refreshments after
the ceremony and an Art Exhibit,Health and Information Fair. The Open House will continue until 3:00 p.m.
CM Greer Payton suggested that special flags be carried during the walk. CM Hans Berg commended the City for
its willingness to cover the expenses including the furniture and amenities of the new Senior Center.
VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE NEW SENIOR CENTER
The staff gave a visual presentation and shared photos of various areas of construction of the new Senior Center and
reported that construction was going well. Since the flooring had not been installed a special tour of the new Center
was not feasible at the time.
Other Business
Staff announced that Eden Housing is accepting applications from potential renters until Friday, June 3. It is
estimated that hundreds of application forms have been picked up from seniors at the Civic Center and the existing
Senior Center. The application forms will be screened and evaluated by Eden Housing.
Commissioner Burr Cain reported that the Dublin Lions will sponsor a picnic at Emerald Glen Park on Saturday,
June 4. He announced the date of the next Parks and Community Services Commission Meeting, and the status of
the Final Draft of the Fallon Master Plan, the Sports Park estimated to be completed in 2009, the Gym at Emerald
Glen Park, and the reconstruction of Shannon Park.
