HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.2 Intergenerational Event 11! 111 �� .1 AGENDA STATEMENT �, ��� SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE giro MEETING DATE: August 5, 2010 MEE g SUBJECT: Intergenerational Event Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and select two Committee Members to serve on the Intergenerational Event Subcommittee FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: On February 23, 2010, Senior Center Advisory Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee headdiences. As a�esultba Car Show and ant Ice Cream Social drew the most would attract their perspective votes from both groups. On July 8, Staff met to discuss the preliminary plans for the first intergenerational event. Staff discussed how the Intergenerational Committee would be formed, and agreed that the group would consist of both teen and senior members. The Youth Advisory Committee will select five youth members at their next regularly scheduled meeting in July. The senior representatives will be made up of two members from Senior Advisory Committee. In addition, three to four patrons from the Senior Center could be selected by Staff for a total of five seniors to serve on the Intergenerational Sub-Committee to match the five youth • members. Staff agreed that the Intergenerational Committee would plan and implement the event; their duties would be to determine the name of the event, the date and location of the event and the criteria (if any) for entering a car. Staff stated that the car show event will be free to owners who wanted to enter a vehicle. A nominal cost may be charged for the ice cream or root beer float. This event is an ideal way to teach the youth members how to plan an event as well as to help bridge the gap between generations. The basic information of who, what, when, where and cost (if any) will be discussed by the Sub-Committee in September, and a report will be made back to the Advisory Committee by the Event Sub-Committee.. Methods of publicity will include the use of flyers, radio and PA system at schools. More specific information will be forthcoming closer to the event.
