The recipients of the Senior Spotlight for spring, summer and fall are Helen Eddy, Barbara Gifford, Gale Gifford and Cell Sirlin. All but Helen Eddy were able to be present. CM Baron acknowledged the efforts of the volunteers that they are the heart and soul of the program. PRESENTATION OF PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES STRATEGIC PLAN ANNUAL REPORT McCreary provided the Advisory Committee with a PowerPoint presentation on the progress made to date on the Parks and Community Services Strategic Plan. He reviewed the strategies and noted that it is a ten year plan that will be updated every five years. . CM Baron thanked McCreary"and Parks and Community Services Director Diane Lowart for all of their hard work and support of the Senior Center. Public Comments: CM Baron thanked McCreary for preparing an excellent PowerPoint presentation of the.Senior Center Annual Report that CM Baron presented to the Parks and Community Services Commission and City Council. • Ceil Sirlin thanked the Advisory Committee for having the Senior Center Programs and related how the Senior Center has helped her personally. CM Baron asked if former Advisory Committee Member Al Edge could be recognized by the Advisory. Committee at a future meeting. Approval of the Minutes—May 6, 2010 CM BARON MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MAY 6, 2010 MINUTES; CM BONETTI SECONDED THE MOTION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES WITH CM VANDERPOOL ABSTAINING. CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF AUGUST 5,2010 PAGE2OF3 • Approval of the Minutes—July 1, 2010 THE JULY 1, 2010 WERE AMENDED AS FOLLOWS:page 2,paragraph 5 "He observed of the top ten activities a quarter of the participation is in the active programs." Strike "a quarter"and replace with "more than half: CM BARON MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE JULY 1, 2010 MINUTES AS AMENDED; CM VANDERPOOL SECONDED THE MOTION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES AS AMENDED WITH CM BONETTI ABSTAINING. Written Communication-None Unfinished Business-None • • New Business ANNUAL SENIOR CENTER PROMOTIONS PLAN McCreary gave an overview of the Annual Senior Center Promotions Plan as outlined in the agenda statement. CM Baron asked when the new website will launch; McCreary indicated likely sometime in September. CM Baron suggested the quarterly e-newsletters for older adults are also distributed to Families with Children,where the grandparents are bringing the children to the program or serving as caregivers. CM Baron asked if the instructors and volunteer leaders could make announcements during classes. Hudson noted that Staff periodically makes brief announcements at the beginning of class. The plan is to have Greeters do this more frequently. INTERGENERATIONAL EVENT Hudson provided the Advisory Committee with information as outlined in the agenda statement on how the Intergenerational Event Sub-Committee would be comprised and the sub-committee responsibilities. During a joint meeting on February 23, 2010,the Senior Center Advisory Committee and Youth Advisory Committee had agreed to hold a joint Car Show and Ice Cream Social during the 2010-2011 school year. CM Bonetti noted the Foundation is also looking at planning a car show for May as a fundraiser; Staff suggested the Foundation may want to partner on this event. CM Baron suggested inviting one to two leaders from car groups to participate in planning the event. CM Baron asked if there is interest from the youth for a Poetry Slam becoming part of this event; Staff is pursuing this as a separate intergenerational event with Dublin's Poet Laureate. OTHER BUSINESS CM Bonetti reported on the Foundation Meeting. She reported that fireworks sales netted approximately. $4,000. The Foundation is debating their future participation in fireworks sales. Bingo is earning about $50 per week. Hudson thanked the Foundation for purchasing the new nametags for volunteers. The Foundation has purchased a plaque to thank Ed Osada and Intel Corporation. Osada is an Intel retiree and Intel donates $10 for every hour he volunteers,which has netted the Foundation over$7,000 to date. CM Baron suggested having guest speakers at lunch since there are some very interesting people in Dublin. SUB-COMMITTEE UPDATES There were no sub-committee reports; in September the Advisory Committee will review strategy assignments in September.
