Call to Order
Chairperson Baron called the meeting to order at 9:36 a.m.
Roll Call:

Oral Communications
CM Baron introduced guest speaker Ronnie Holland,the City of Dublin's Poet Laureate.
Holland provided a review of her activities as the City's first Poet Laureate and noted her term expires May 2010.
She provided an overview of the Poet Laureate Program. Holland is currently writing a poem for Dublin's Black
History Month program that will be presented in a rap format by teens.
CM Baron asked if it would be beneficial to have Holland at the combined meeting of the Senior Center Advisory
Committee and the Youth Advisory Committee on February 24th• Holland indicated she would be happy to
participate if available.
Holland shared that Pleasanton has set up an open mic program for teens; she suggested having teens interview
seniors and present the interviews in prose.
CM Baron noted that there is a particular span in a teen's life where they become creative and asked Holland how
someone can retain that creativity; Holland indicated that could be an all day workshop.
Guarienti commented that communication is key. He stated that the audible reading of poetry is similar to going to
a play; it is life experience being read.
Approval of the Minutes—
CM VANDERPOOL MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE JANUARY 7, 2010 MINUTES AS AMENDED;
CM BONETTI SECONDED THE MOTION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE
AMENDED MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 7,2010 MEETING.

New Business
BRAINSTORM SATURDAY PROGRAM IDEAS
Hudson provided the Committee Members with an overview of the activities currently offered and reviewed
potential activities to expand on Saturday mornings. Hudson is looking for activities that are ongoing as well as
one time programs. Activities would need to be led by either volunteers or be fee based programs using contracted
instructors.
CM Pederson commented the proposed list of activities from Staff is inclusive and did not have any other ideas.

CM Baron asked if the goal today was to identify areas to explore; Staff yes.
CM Baron suggested capitalizing on currently successful programs offered during the week; to extend the weekly
program into the weekend. Hudson indicated she is looking into extending successful programs and it will be
contingent upon finding instructors and volunteer leaders.
CM Baron suggested workshops from businesses such as The Home Depot.
CM Baron suggested having fun on the weekend by showing old cartoons. CM Pederson suggested setting up
streaming of cartoons on the Senior Center webpage.
Guarienti suggested looking at www.meetup.com for ideas.
CM Baron suggested an intergenerational ping pong tournament; inviting Council Members and the Mayor to speak
about current issues; invite a developer to talk about their Dublin projects. He also suggested scheduling a speaker
to speak about new laws and their implications on older adults.
DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
The Advisory Committee had requested that Staff along with CM Bonetti as part of Strategic Goal #4 propose a
nomination process and selection criteria for the Dublin Senior Center Citizen of the Year.
The Advisory Committee reviewed the proposed guidelines/eligibility/criteria and provided input.
Hudson and CM Bonetti will use the Advisory Committee input to update the nomination form and will forward the
final version to the Advisory Committee and print it in the March-April newsletter. The nominees and winners will
be invited and announced at the April Volunteer Luncheon.
The Advisory Committee would like to invite one member of the Youth Advisory Committee to be a judge and
directed Hudson to choose two other judges from outside of the Senior Center, possibly persons from neighboring
Senior Centers.
OTHER BUSINESS
CM Bonetti reported on the Dublin Senior Center Foundation meeting. The Foundation will be a one year sponsor
of the Coffee Program and has made a$500 partial payment of the$1,500 total.
Guarienti reported on the Parks and Community Services Commission. In January the Commission had their
elections. He gave a brief overview of the meeting and noted some small fee increases were recommended for
facility and field rentals. On January 23rd the Commission discussed the proposed FY 2010-2011 Goals and
Objectives with the City Council.
SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES
Strategy #1: Expand availability of Advisory Committee Members to listen to the community about the
recreational and social needs of older adults.
CM Baron had nothing to report.
Strategy#2—Serve as Ambassadors and expand outreach to older adults in the community.
CM Vanderpool had nothing to report.
CM Baron reviewed the Parks Commission schedule.

There will not be an Advisory Committee meeting in March due to the special meeting with the Youth Advisory
Committee on February 24.
CM Baron commented that it has been almost two years since the marketing and communications plan was
developed. He asked if the Advisory Committee wanted to have a special meeting to conduct a review. Hudson
will discuss with McCreary the possibility of having this meeting in March.
