Volunteer Ambassador Job Description RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and provide input FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: Staff is ready to implement the Ambassador Program now that the Greeter Program has been established as a means to identify and welcome new patrons to the Dublin Senior Center. A copy of the Ambassador's Job Description is attached for review. It is envisioned that the Ambassadors will assist staff with community outreach and promotion of the Senior Center. This will be done by speaking to service organizations, senior housing complexes and group homes, and other groups that are of interest to older adults. The position requires people who are not only friendly and approachable but are also familiar with the Dublin Senior Center activities. The Ambassador should feel comfortable making presentations and speaking before groups, and be able to answer questions and provide information about the Senior Center. The Ambassador will be able to utilize tools and share how the community can receive information about the Dublin Senior Center upcoming activities and events. Some knowledge on how to use the computer and projector to show computer presentations is helpful but not mandatory. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends that the Advisory Committee receive the report and provide input. The Senior Center's vision is to provide the opportunity to "create rewarding friendships, intriguing activities and a lifestyle of possibilities!"through recreational activities. Major Responsibilities or tasks: Give presentations about Dublin Senior Center activities via Power point presentation. Distribute literature and information about new activities, classes, and upcoming events at the Dublin Senior Center. Set up table top displays and distribute collateral materials, giveaways(if any) and brochures pertaining to the City of Dublin Parks and Community Services Department. Encourage visiting www.DublinSeniorCenter.com website and registering online. Qualifications: Must have excellent interpersonal skills plus a positive personality and demeanor. Possess the confidence to approach and welcome all types of people. Be knowledgeable about the activities,programs and services offered at the Senior Center. Time Commitment: Make a 15—30 minute presentation once a month to a service club, senior organization such as an Assisted Living or Senior Complex, or to newcomers to the Senior Center. Training/Orientation Provided: Training is provided. A general script or outline will be provided to the speaker. Benefits for Volunteer: Volunteer in a friendly environment. Remain socially connected to others, meet new and interesting people. Experience the feeling of giving and receiving positive feedback. Stay informed of community happenings. The following are some tips on how to be an effective Ambassador. 1) Have fun! This is an opportunity to meet many interesting people with a variety of interests and backgrounds. 2) Wear a name tag and dress appropriately for the venue and event you are participating in. 3) Be familiar with the Dublin Senior Center activities, flyers and newsletter;promote upcoming special events. 4) Encourage the public to provide feedback verbally or in writing.
