It was noted that the slight decrease in attendance was due to the Adult School budget cutbacks and they no longer offer courses at the Center. There is a significant increase in volunteer hours since hiring a part-time Senior Recreation Leader/Volunteer Coordinator. Staff has been able to create new positions to fully utilize the talents of volunteers. Additionally volunteers are consistently documenting their hours. CM Baron asked how many volunteers the Senior Center has. Staff did not have the exact number, but estimate there are approximately 150 volunteers. There are about 75 volunteers that work over 100 hours per year. CM Baron suggested the possibility of special recognition for those volunteers who donate a high number of hours. The Advisory Committee discussed and was hesitant to do this as it may create competition. McCreary asked if the Committee would like the number of volunteer hours reported or the number of volunteers reflected in the Quarterly Reports. CM Baron indicated he preferred the number of hours. The Advisory Committee discusses the success of the Saturday morning programs. Staff will bring back as an agenda item brainstorming new Saturday programs and creating job descriptions for ambassadors. McCreary informed the Advisory Committee as they requested; they will have the opportunity of meeting with the Youth Advisory Committee on February 24th to brainstorm ideas for intergenerational opportunities. There are 13 youth members and Staff suggested that each Committee Member bring a guest. Additionally, Hudson will also invite Center patrons to participate. Since the Advisory Committee will be meeting on Wednesday, February 24, the March 4th meeting will be cancelled. Guarienti commented that the Greeter Program and the Coffee Program have changed the atmosphere of the Center. There is more socializing, and a nice feeling when coming into the Center. CM Baron feels the Center could use some designated "hobnobbers" to just wonder around the Center and make conversation,to chat people up. RECOGNITION OF SENIOR SPOTLIGHT PARTICIPANTS The Advisory Committee requested discussing the concept of recognizing the seniors featured in the Senior Spotlight program. This program is part of the Committee's Strategic Goal #4. CM Baron proposed these individuals be invited to an Advisory Committee meeting to receive a Certificate of Recognition from the Advisory • CITY OF DUBLIN SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES OF JANUARY 7,2010 PAGE 3 OF 4 Committee. A suggestion was also made that those persons highlighted in the Integrity in Action program also be included. CM Vanderpool suggested having the Senior Spotlight as well as the Integrity in Action recipients attend the Annual Volunteer Event to be recognized. CM Bonetti also liked this idea of recognizing them at the Committee meeting and at the Volunteer Event. McCreary indicated that the 2009 recipients could be invited to the April event. Guarienti suggested that the participants be invited to the Committee meeting as a matter of timeliness and agreed that that they be invited to the Volunteer Event. CM Baron felt that inviting participants to the Advisory Committee meeting would be immediate and a more formal means of recognition. CM Vanderpool felt the Senior Spotlight Poster display did provide immediate recognition. CM Baron suggested that at the Advisory Committee meeting the participant would be highlighted and their picture could be taken with the Committee Members. The Committee agreed to have participants invited to the Advisory Committee meeting and also to the Volunteer Event. OTHER BUSINESS CM Bonetti asked if the request for nominations for Senior of the Year should be placed in the upcoming newsletter. Hudson suggested that the criteria will need to be developed first. McCreary indicated the Advisory Committee would need to discuss the criteria and will place this item on the February agenda for discussion. CM Bonetti stated there was no January Foundation meeting. Guarienti reported briefly on the Parks and Community Services Commission December meeting. He provided a short explanation about United Soccer and their request to have rental fees reduced and that the Commission recommended the City Council grant them the request.
