r9 V' s2 AGENDA STATEMENT
\ 1/ SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE .
ZIF° MEETING DATE: JANUARY 7, 2010
SUBJECT: Recognition of Senior Spotlight Participants
Report Prepared by Paul McCreary, Assistant Director of Parks
and Community Services
ATTACHMENTS: None
RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and provide input on the proposed plan
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION: Chairperson Baron requested an item be placed on the agenda to
discuss the concept of recognizing at Advisory Committee meetings those people who are featured as part
of the "Senior Spotlight"program.
In 2009 the Senior Spotlight program was created in response to the Advisory Committee's new strategic
goal to make older adults feel valued in the community (Strategic Goal #4). The program objective is to
promote the unique knowledge, skills, abilities, and achievements of older adults in Dublin, and as a
result further strengthen the community's value of older adults.
This program is coordinated by an Advisory Committee sub-committee, which bi-monthly selects an
older adult to feature in the Senior Spotlight. The sub-committee interviews the individuals and prepares
a display for the Senior Center with a narrative and photos about them. In addition the individuals and
highlights of their stories are published in the bi-monthly newsletter.
As proposed by Chairperson Baron the individuals would be invited to an Advisory Committee meeting
for special recognition of their achievements. The individuals would also receive a certificate of
recognition from the Advisory Committee.
Implementation of this plan could be accommodated with existing resources and Staff time. If the
Advisory Committee concurs with the plan, Staff recommends inviting all of the 2009 recipients to the
March 2010 Advisory Committee meeting for recognition.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Advisory Committee receive the report and
provide input on the proposed plan.
