Call to Order
Chairperson CM Baron called the meeting to order at 9:33 a.m.
Roll Call:
Committee Members (CM) Present: Martin Baron, Delilah Vanderpool, Al ,Edge, Tim Pedersen and
Diane Bonetti
Parks and Community Services Commission Liaison Present: Rich Guarienti
Staff Present: Paul McCreary, Assistant Director of Parks and Community Services, Anna Hudson,
Recreation Coordinator; Diane Guenther, Office Assistant
Oral Communications
Ramona Frydendal, Dublin Senior Center Foundation Board Member was present at the meeting and
introduced to the Advisory Committee.
CM Vanderpool commended Staff on the outstanding special luncheons.
Approval of the Minutes—
CM BONETTI MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE OCTOBER 1, 2009 MINUTES; CM EDGE
SECONDED THE MOTION. THE COMMITTEE UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE MINUTES
OF THE OCTOBER 1, 2009 MEETING.

New Business
PARKS AND COMMUNITY SERVICES GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
McCreary provided the Committee with an overview of the adopted 2009-2010 Goals and Objective
status and the Preliminary Goals and Objectives 2010-2011.
Guarienti asked when the City Council Goals and Objectives Study Session would be held. He
encouraged Committee Members to attend this workshop. McCreary will get back to the Members with a
date.
CM Baron commented that the Senior Center receives a lot of support from the City and it would be good
for the Advisory Committee to show interest in the process.
CM Baron noted that the Saturday morning programs have successful and that it had started as a seed idea
and has added a new dimension to the Center.
CM Baron commented that BART publishes a guide about what is available near stations. CM Baron
suggested that once the new BART station is opened the Senior Center be added to their guide. He feels
this would be good advertisement and revenue stream for the Center. Staff thought this would be possible
although the opening of the new station is about a year out.

McCreary reviewed the Preliminary Goals and Objectives for 2010-2011. He informed the Committee
that any new objectives should fully recover their cost with revenue.
CM Edge commented on the objectives to Continue to look for locations in City public facilities that will
allow teens to gather in a welcoming environment. He suggested having dances at the Shannon Center.
Staff commented that a middle school dance and a high school winter ball have scheduled at the Shannon
Community Center. McCreary also commented a summer program is being considered that will offer
evening activities in the community for teens.
Guarienti commented on the status and current negations for easement on Council Objective 11 Work
with EBRPD to complete negotiations for land acquisition or obtain conservation easement to provide
public access in the western hills for an Open Space Area.
Under Preliminary Objective 6 Develop adult soccer league at Fallon Sports Park in 2011, CM Bonetti
asked what the age groups for leagues are. McCreary indicated Staff would be researching existing
leagues in other cities to be sure the Dublin leagues are on par with those cities.
McCreary pointed out there are no specific goals and objectives on the preliminary list for the Senior
Center and asked if the Committee felt there was anything important to add.
CM Baron led some discussion about mixing generations.
CM Bonetti asked about the idea of teens and senior getting together in some type of program. Hudson
commented on the need to look for existing groups and mix them together; that it is not the age that brings
people together it is the activity. The Advisory Committee Members discussed some ideas about possible
programs for youth and seniors.
CM Bonetti asked about the possibility of the Senior Center Advisory Committee meeting with the Youth
Advisory Committee. Staff will schedule a workshop in February with the Youth Advisory Committee to
explore avenues for activities/classes.
CM Baron commented as we become more multi-cultural should we advance multi-cultural discussion
groups.
CM Vanderpool asked if the City does anything for Black History Month, Cinco de Mayo, etc. McCreary
indicated no City events are planned for those days.
Guarienti suggested working cooperatively with the Heritage Center to promote their programs at the
Senior Center. He commented there are many programs that are offered throughout this City but there is
such a small turnout. He suggested the use of a community calendar that reflects programs from many
different organizations.
CM Vanderpool made the motion to approve the 2010-2011 Preliminary Goals and Objectives as
outlined by Staff. The motion was seconded by CM Bonetti and the Committee Members unanimously
approved.
EXPANSION OF SENIOR CENTER PING PONG PROGRAM

McCreary provided the Advisory Committee with a description of the current ping pong program and
Staff suggestion for program expansion including the purchase of equipment and expanding the program
hours.
CM Baron asked if we are reacting too quickly and its Staff has met with the players to get a feel about
what they want. Hudson has talked with the players and has looked at other programs at other Senior
Centers.
CM Baron asked if there were any rules against players eating in Classroom B while waiting to play ping
pong. Hudson responded that there are not.
Guarienti suggested looking at all avenues before setting up and having the participants run the program.
Staff suggested that the City find donations to obtain only one additional ping pong table. The Advisory
Committee concurred.
OTHER BUSINESS
CM Bonetti reported that the Dublin Senior Foundation has donated $1,500 to the Senior Center Coffee
Sponsorship Program.
The Foundation Board is now at 15 members.
Four Foundation Board Members will volunteer at the St. Patrick's Day Celebration to help with
fundraising.
Guarienti gave a brief overview of the last Parks and Community Services Commission meeting.
The Advisory Committee Members gave brief updates on the status of their strategies.
Strategy #1: Expand availability of Advisory Committee Members to listen to the community about the
recreational and social needs of older adults.
CM Baron is commented he is still working toward having Congressman McNearny come to the Senior
Center
Strategy#2—Serve as Ambassadors and expand outreach to older adults in the community.
CM Vanderpool is waiting for a date and time to go The Groves to host an info fair and BBQ. She also
asked Staff for some promotional material to hand out to service groups.
Strategy#3—Promote and support the proposed Saturday morning programs at the Senior Center.
CM Bonetti had nothing to report.
Strategy 4: Making old adults feel valued in the Community.
CM Vanderpool noted the Senior Spotlight is going very well.
Guarienti asked Staff give a status report on the Ride Match Program at a future Advisory Committee
Meeting.
