HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.2 Overview of the Hometown Heroes Event (OF i5 AGENDA STATEMENT 1k>�l1 SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 3, 2011 • SUBJECT: Overview of the Hometown Heroes Event Report Prepared by Anna Hudson, Recreation Coordinator ATTACHMENTS: Event Flyer RECOMMENDATION: Receive report' FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The 4th Annual Hometown Heroes event is scheduled for Sunday, November 6, starting at 3:00 p.m. at the Dublin Senior Center. This event serves as Dublin's Veteran's Day event. The event is free and open to the public. The 191st Army Band, "The Band of the Wild West", is a 40-piece band that will perform at the event. The program will begin with Jason Gawel, Music Director of Valley Christian Center (VCC), singing the National Anthem, and Pastor Roger Valci of VCC giving an innovation. Mayor Sbranti and the new Garrison Commander of Camp Parks, Lieutenant Colonel David James will address the veterans and audience. The Wall of Heroes will feature the unveiling of several photos of veterans from the community. In addition, a Camp Parks display from the Heritage Museum, and historical photos provided by Operation S.A.M will be unveiled. At the event donations of new white socks for U.S. troops will be accepted on behalf of the Operation SAM. The goal is to surpass the 220 pairs of socks donated last year. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Senior Center Advisory Committee receive the report.
