AGENDA STATEMENT SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING DATE: February 5, 2009 SUBJECT: Review of Senior Center Mission,Vision and Values Report Prepared by Paul McCreary, Assistant Director of Parks • and Community Services ATTACHMENTS: None RECOMMENDATION: Receive report and provide input FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: The new term of the Senior Center Advisory Committee began in January 2011. As was done at the start of the previous term, Staff will provide background information about the Advisory Committee and Senior Center. Committee Members will have an opportunity to better acquaint themselves with each other and discuss their role as Committee Members. At the meeting Staff will review the Senior Center Vision, Mission and Values that were recommended by the Advisory Committee four years ago, and then updated two years ago. The Advisory Committee will be asked to determine if the Vision,Mission and Values are still relevant. The Committee Members will also discuss common interests for the upcoming two-year term and potential objectives that each would like to accomplish. Following are some bullet points for the Committee Members to think about in preparation for the meeting. 1) Getting better acquainted i) What was your motivation for joining this committee? ii) What is the most valuable asset you bring to the committee and Senior Center? 2) Committee Member roles and responsibilities i) What does each of us bring? ii) What can we best do together, and in what time frame? MISSION The Mission Statement describes the business of the Dublin Senior Center. It explains how the elected and appointed officials and Staff should meet the needs of older adults in the community. The Mission COPIES TO: ITEM NO.: 7.3 G:\SRADVCMTE\Statements\2011\3-3-11 Item 7.3 Committee Objectives.doc describes the differences made in individuals and the community,through the operation of the Dublin Senior Center. Following is the Senior Center Mission Statement. Provide programs and maintain a first-rate community facility that promotes and supports a high quality of life for those 55 and better by: • Providing responsive customer service • Fostering new opportunities for recreational experiences and socialization • Encouraging volunteerism • Encouraging wellness, lifelong learning and discovery • Stimulating creativity • Drawing on the diverse cultural and intellectual resources of customers • Enhancing accessibility and independence • Developing partnerships with other organizations to address recreational and human services needs VISION The Vision Statement describes the preferred future of the Dublin Senior Center. It uses language to convey a sense of how success would look and feel. It describes what would be accomplished when the City successfully meets the mission of the Senior Center. Following is the Vision Statement for the Senior Center: "Creating rewarding friendships, intriguing activities and a lifestyle of possibilities!" VALUES The core values are the qualities and beliefs that form the foundation of the Dublin Senior Center. The core values describe the qualities of the Dublin Senior Center that are most valued by customers. Core values are the driving force behind the way the City does business, guiding the day-to-day operations of the Senior Center to ensure the City is successful at achieving its mission. Following are the Dublin Senior Center values. • Fun • Social Connections • Volunteerism • Lifelong Learning • Accessibility • Health and Wellness • Professional, Customer-Focused Employees RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Advisory Committee receive the report and provide input. 2 of 2 J
