DECA's flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industiy professiona] serving as a judge.DECA's competitive ' events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school. Competition range from a local Northern California Career Development Conference(NCDC), California Career Development Conference (CDC), International Career Development Conference(ICDC). ' Leadership at Wells is a group of 48 students who put on a plethora of events for fellow Wells Roadrunners. These students work tirelessly and are committed to what they do.Under the supervision of Ms. Sara Longyear and Mrs.Denise Bunger,Leadership plans and orchestrates events such as school dances, rallies, spirit weeks, fundraisers, recognition activities, intramural games, and countless other pleasant events for the population at Wells Middle School. Last month, some Leadership students organized a book drive that brought over 600 books to children in the Bay Area.Because this proj ect was such a success,we are planning more community service projects like it. Not only do Leadership students help their school and community, but they also help themselves by becoming a better leader everyday. To help leadership students become the best they can be,we would like to send them to a Leadership training called CASL.Here, they will converse with other schools to draw ideas from them and to share their own.Unfortunately,Leadership does not currently have the funds to send all of its members. If we were lucky enough to receive your grant,we would send all Leadership students to CASL in order to better the students and school events. To prove to you that we used the funds as proposed,we can show you our ASB minutes. When we keep track of ASB minutes,we are keeping track of what we talk about in meetings and what we spend our money on.Therefore, you will know we used the funds for what we promised. We hope you take us into consideration for your grant. This August, I founded - P.A.T.C.H. Club(Plushies Aimed to Comfort Hearts) at Dublin High School with the help of 4 some of my peers. P.A.T.C.H. has around 25 members who regularly attend our bi-weekly t meetings. The club's purpose is to help raise awareness about children in crisis in our community w and to help abused children by providing them with a"comfoit item." I know firsthand how reat an im act this seemingly small of act of kindness can have on a child. When I was g P younger,I was a victim of sexual abuse, and workers at a county victim center gave me a stuffed a animal. That doll provided me with a sense of security and the comfort I needed to recover. f , i Now,with the help of my friends,it's my turn to give back by providing other abused children 4 i : with the same love and kindness that was given to me, and by being a voice and help to those 6 E who are hurting like I once did. ' 4 P.A.T.C.H. Club provides Dublin teens with opportunities to seive our community through various service projects across the year. In November, our members are volunteering at a child recovery center to stuff hundreds of envelopes for its huge holiday fundraiser. In December,P.A.T.C.H. Club is hosting our first stuffed animal donation drive at Dublin High s School to be given to abused children that pass through the CALICO Center(calicocenter.org). ; i G ;, ; : This April,we are especially excited to hold our very first abuse awareness campaign during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Child abuse is a taboo subject and, in most ' cases, goes unreported because of the fear and shame faced by its victims. Our campaign's goal ' is to raise child abuse awareness in our community because awareness is the key to preventing ' child abuse and to getting more people involved with helping its victims. Through our 2017 Child Abuse Awareness Campaign and Blanket Project,P.A.T.C.H. ' members will be selling mini buttons attached to an informational flier about child abuse awareness and about the opportunity for students to participate in our Spring blanket making project. Our goal is to organize a team of 20+students to invest 8 hours across a few P.A.T.C.H meetings to make 20 fleece blankets for a local abuse shelter or to a local first responders' ', ; agency. Donations generated from the button sales will be used for additional blanket-making j i i supplies and for future club projects. Together, these activities will help accomplish both aspects i i , of child abuse awareness. ; In addition to bringing comfort to abused children, the April project will directly benefit ; Dublin teens by building their awareness of the pervasive problem of child abuse and by helping i ! them to develop compassion for others around them. It will also provide teens with an I ; opportunity to wark together to serve our community and to make a positive impact in the lives i E , of hurting children ( i Our club respectfully requests for a$300 grant for our Child Abuse Awareness ; Campaign and Blanket Project in Apri12017 so that we can hold this service project. Our mission is to ensure that all citizens, families, organizations and businesses in Dublin are aware and involved in a citywide character development program, Integrity tn Action, which would strengthen and unify the Dublin community through shared character traits. The focus for this program is built around the letter "I". I is for Integrity. I is for who I am. The reason for the word Action comes from motivating each individual to take it upon themselves to make a difference by embodying the word Integrity. Integrity in Action can thrive everyday on every campus, in every business, in every home. The Integrity In Action program highlights a particular character trait for each of the nine months of the schoo)year: August/September- I am Respectful, October—I am Responsible, November—I am Caring, December—I am Giving,January—I have a Positive Attitude, February—I am Trustworthy, March —I am Cooperative, April—I do my Best, May—I am Honest and June/luly—I have Self-Discipline. Dublin Unified School District students learn about the 10 Character Traits starting from Pre- Kindergarten through 12t''grade. Each school educates their students on the Character traits based on plans and concepts which they feel work best for their school environment. In 2013, Dublin Integrity in Action created a Student Recognition program called, Stars of Integrity. It was decided by the committee that recognizing students from each school and from all every grade level for having Integrity, would be an important way to inspire other students to become a person of integrity. It was hoped this would have a snowball effect and eventually, all students would automatically spread positive character traits throughout all our schools,to businesses and the Dublin community. This District event is held at the end of the school year in May or 1une. It recognizes 10 students from all 7 elementary, both middle schools,Valley High School and due to the size of its student population, 20 students from Dublin High School, who are chosen as having best exemplified the 10 character traits for the current school year on their campus. The students are invited along with their families to this special evening held at Dublin High School that recognizes, honors and rewards these students for being a person of Integrity. Students are called up and individually recognized at Stars of Integrity for being the best in character is a major achievement that deserves an individual "moment in time" acknowledgement. The rewards presented to the students have included certificates from Dublin Integrity In Action, the City of Dublin, and Assemblywoman Catherine Baker. The recipients have also received coupons from business community members in support of this program, for discounts or complimentary items from Jamba Juice, Rockin'Jump, Mountain Mike's Pizza, Boomers, Elephant Bar and Chuck E Cheese. This past spring, the students also received the Dublin Integrity In Action's Character Trait's Coloring Book. This latest project features original works of art from Dublin High School students which depict each of the ten Integrity In Action character traits. Geared towards students in Kindergarten and First grade, it is the first character traits project produced by Dublin Integrity In Action that is interactive. In addition to these items, the past two years Dublin Integrity In Action was able to give to each Stars of Integrity student recipient a rectangular vinyl/plastic, hang tag which can be hung from a handbag, belt loop or backpack. This item was in the three colors that represent the Dublin Integrity In Action committee of green, purple and orange. It noted across the open space the words, "Star of Integrity" and was very well received by aIL We have now distributed all of these tags and will need to purchase more for this school year's program. The funds received from this grant would be used to purchase a new quantity of the Star of Integrity hang tags. We can provide a picture of the ordered item along with an invoice from the vendor as initial proof items of purchase. At this school year's Stars of Integrity, at Dublin High School, we will be able to take pictures of students with this acknowledgement of character achievement item, in hand. ' ATTACHMENT 9 : @ . City Of Dublin Youth Advisory Committee 2016-2017 Youth Mini Grant Appliration The application and proposal will be accepted untit Friday, November 4,2016 at 5:00 PM . To alleviate the burden of expensive hotel fees,we also plan to use the grant money to pay for some or all of the hotel fees. In order to inform the YAC committee of our expenses,we can provide the ' ; invoices/receipts from the conferences that we attend with all the fees that we paid. If requested; t 5 , F ' ; . we can also send a carbon copy of the checks that were sent to these conferences. We can also i obtain the invoices from any future hotels that we book. i In our first year of Model United Nations,we applied for the grant and ended up j receiving around$400 to help benefit the club. The funds helped our us massively;all of the I money we used ended up paying for school delegation frees and cover hotel fees for our single ; overnight conference that year. We hope that the YAC takes this all into consideration and i decide to help us fund our club,we eagerly await your response!
