Foss, City Manager SUBJECT: Splatter 2017 Event Preview Prepared by: Tegan McLane, Cultural Arts & Heritage Manager EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will receive a report on planned activities for the Splatter festival, to be held Saturday, September 16 at Emerald Glen Park. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Receive the report. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Sufficient funding is available. Funding for Splatter was included in the Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget. DESCRIPTION: The City of Dublin will hold its sixth annual Splatter festival Saturday, September 16, Noon-8:00 p.m. at Emerald Glen Park. Event admission and parking are free. This year, with the opening of The Wave, Dublin's new recreation and aquatic center and adjacent park amenities, Staff is reconfiguring the festival grounds layout to include the new Emerald Glen Amphitheater and plaza area where the Farmers' Market is held. Staff is also incorporating water, as a theme along with the traditional themes of food, wine, art and music. A new Water Ballerz activity will be added, along with an expanded selection of carnival rides. A new water-related carnival game and art activity will also be added. Splatter will include a full day of free music and dance on the Emerald Glen Amphitheater stage, in addition to the Fountain Stage and Main Stage on the lawn, in response to audience requests, The Peelers band which performed in 2015 wi ll again Page 2 of 2 close out the festival with a giant community dance party on the lawn from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The portable Culinary Stage will offer cooking demonstrations throughout the day, and other performers and artists will be stationed throughout the e vent. Arts and crafts vendors will sell handmade items, and a wide variety of foods will be available from traditional fair vendors and gourmet food trucks parked in two locations. The Dublin Rotary Club will operate two beverage booths selling local win es and beers. Booths will be set up similar to the set -up the group uses successfully at the St. Patrick’s Day Festival. In the continued year-long recognition of the City of Dublin's 35th (Emerald) anniversary, branded green pint glasses will be sold, and the public will have an opportunity to participate in a special 35th anniversary art activity. The Wave will be open that for normal weekend hours, 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. While additional parking spaces have come on line with the opening of lots adjace nt to The Wave, the City will continue its practice of providing free shuttle rides from designated offsite parking lots to minimize traffic congestion and parking concerns.
