SUBJECT: Winter 2017 Quarterly Report
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Advisory Committee will receive a report on the classes, activities, and events conducted at the Senior
Center during the 2017 winter season. Information tracked between December 2016 — February 2017
includes drop-in attendance in the lounge, participation in activities and programs, average daily attendance
and volunteer hours.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive the Report.
DESCRIPTION:
The Dublin Senior Center offers activities and events that promote healthy living for seniors, and the
opportunity to build new friendships through recreation. The following is a summary of the 2017 winter
quarter.

The Senior Center experienced a 27% increase in Drop-in attendance and a 2% increase in overall attendance.
The total volunteer hours increased by 16%. Total volunteer hours have been trending upwards throughout
2016.

Summary of the Winter Attendance Comparison
Programs showing large increases in attendance were Gentle Yoga (+114%), Watercolor classes (+41%),
Chinese Mah Jong (+38%), Ukulele (Jam Session and Instruction) (+34%), and American Sign Language
(+32%). The Daily Lunch Program increased 20% with 2,159 diners compared to 1,806 a year ago. New
programs included Tai Chi Chuan on Thursdays with 79 participants, Acoustic Guitar with 48 participants,
and Everyday Life Skills in English returned with 40 participants. During this quarter there were 44 building
tours given,which is a great sign that new potential participants are becoming interested in the Senior Center.
December 2016 Highlights
• A farewell lunch was held on December 20th in honor of Ms. Anna Hudson's retirement. Ms. Hudson
worked as a Recreation Coordinator for the City of Dublin for 15 years. 70 patrons came out to say
goodbye, share stories and enjoyed special performances from Senior Center groups in wishing Ms.
Hudson a happy retirement.
• On December 22 the Senior Center provided a special holiday lunch catered by Checkers. Participants
also enjoyed a holiday themed performance from Manny Romero.
• DJ Bill Blankenship hosted an afternoon ballroom dance social on December 17, and included dance
lessons, snacks, and music.
• The holiday DaneEscape social drew 75 dancers in December.
January 2017 Highlights
• On January 23 Mr. Tyler Phillips joined the team at the Senior Center as the new Recreation
Coordinator.
• DJ Bill Blankenship hosted an afternoon ballroom dance social on January 27, and included dance
lessons, snacks, and music.
February 2017 Highlights
• The line dance program continued to be one of the most popular programs at the Senior Center with
658 recorded drop-in participants for the month of February.
• DJ Bill Blankenship hosted an afternoon ballroom dance social on February 24th, and included dance
lessons, snacks, and music.
