PARKS & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION DATE: May 15, 2017 TO: Honorable Chair and Commissioners FROM: Micki Cronin, Assistant Director of Parks and Community Services SUBJECT: Youth Fee Assistance Program By:Lisa McPherson, Recreation Supervisor EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Commission will receive an informational report on the Youth Fee Assistance Program. FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION: Receive the Report. DESCRIPTION: The City of Dublin Youth Fee Assistance Program provides financial assistance to eligible Dublin youth to participate in City-sponsored recreation programs. Although programs and activities sponsored by the Parks and Community Services Department are priced to be affordable, the registration fees may prohibit some lower-income residents from participating in the activities. The Youth Fee Assistance Program provides an opportunity for qualified youth residents to participate in quality recreational experiences that may not be possible without this assistance. The Youth Fee Assistance Program is available to Dublin youth who are ages 17 years and younger, and whose family household income level meets the Housing and Urban Development income limits for Alameda County. The Program provides $200 per eligible youth annually to use towards participating in City- sponsored recreational activities. Families are encouraged to reapply each year to continue to participate in the program at the end of their 12-month cycle. Funding sources for the Youth Fee Assistance Program include the City's General Fund, matching up to $5,000 per year; and Youth Advisory Committee fundraising activities at the St. Patrick's Day Celebration and the Dublin Benefit Concert. This year, additional donations have been received from the Junior Warriors Program and Dublin Preschool activities, including the Dublin Preschool Walk-A-Thon. Additional donations have also been received from the Activity Registration Form where there is an option for ITEM NO.: Page 1 of 2 registrants to donate to the program. Over $2,500 have been received from the donation sources mentioned above during this calendar year. As of this report, the Youth Fee Assistance Program has a little over $20,000 in funding with 60 active participants. The current available funding can serve additional youth from the community. As of this report the Program does not have a waiting list. The Youth Fee Assistance Program is advertised in the Activity Guide, the City's Website, City facilities, and at City events.
