The meeting was called to order at 7:01 PM by Chair Thalblum. 1. Call to Order Commission Chair Janine Thalblum: Present, Commission Vice Chair Philip Tucker: Present, Commissioner Matthew Giller: Present, Commissioner Michelle Smith McDonald: Present, Commissioner Tom Madigan: Present, Commissioner Nicole Butler: Present. 2. Oral Communications 2.1. Public Comment— None. 3. Consent Calendar 3.1. Approve minutes of the June 19, 2017 Parks and Community Services Commission Meeting. PCS 2017 Spring Quarterly Report Recreation Supervisors, Ms. Lisa McPherson and Mr. Rich Jochner, and Parks and Community Services Assistant Director, Ms. Micki Cronin, presented the specifics of the items as outlined in the Staff Report. Ms. McPherson explained the annual job fair is held in March because kids are in school and March is a good time for Staff to start looking to hire for summer. She stated that 35-40% of job fair attendance result in job offerings. The Commission asked about attendance at the Senior Center and whether attendance for the bread giveaway counts as attendance. Ms. Cronin explained that the door counter tallies traffic passing through the Senior Center, regardless of the time of day or reason for the visit. The Commission asked about the recent opening of The Wave, including the status of different food vendors, what outreach has been done to attract company rentals, and whether resident or family passes would be offered. Ms. Cronin explained that despite some technology issues, it has been a successful year thus far. She said more food vendors are expected and although it was initially challenging to set price points, there has been overall success. She stated that Staff is considering a concessions stand in the near future. She explained there has been interest in company rentals but Staff is planning to increase outreach to help increase this interest. She further explained that the Wave currently offers a convenience pass for lap swim. The Commission expressed that they were pleased with the reports and Staffs work with programs and events. ACTION The Commission received the Report. 7.2. Veterans Art Selection Committee Representative Cultural Arts and Heritage Manager, Ms. Tegan McLane, presented the specifics of the items as outlined in the Staff Report. She asked the Commission to select one Commissioner as a representative and another Commissioner as an alternate for the Veterans Art Selection Committee. Chair Thalblum expressed her pleasure that the City is creating this Committee and stated she would love the opportunity to act as the representative because she is a veteran. ACTION Chair Thalblum was appointed as the designated representative, with Commissioner Tucker as the alternate. Other Business Brief information only reports from Commissioners and/or Staff, including committee reports and reports by Commissioners related to meetings attended at City expense (AB1234). Commissioners provided brief informational reports on events and meetings attended since the last Commission meeting. Staff provided program, project and event updates; and reminded the Commission that the next meeting would be held on October 16, 2017. 9. Adjournment There being no further business to come before the Parks and Community Services Commission, the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 PM.
