Soto, City Clerk/Records Manager EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The City Council will present a proclamation recognizing March 2018 was American Red Cross Month. STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Present the proclamation. FINANCIAL IMPACT: N/A DESCRIPTION: The City Council will present a proclamation to the American Red Cross Month, recognizing those who support the Red Cross in helping people in need down the street, across the country and around the world through time, money and/or blood donation. NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH: N/A ATTACHMENTS: 1. American Red Cross Proclamation 2018 A PROCLAMATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN, CALIFORNIA “American Red Cross Month – March 2018” WHEREAS, The American Red Cross saw a record-breaking year in 2017 of challenging domestic and international response efforts. Through the support of its volunteers, in just 45 days, the Red Cross responded to six of the largest and most complex disasters of 2017 including back-to-back hurricanes, the deadliest week of wildfires in California history, and the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas. In addition, the Red Cross responded to nearly 50,000 home fires in 2017, providing casework assistance to help 76,000 families recover; and WHEREAS, The American Red Cross here in Alameda County assisted with 219 local fire disasters in the past year and assiste d 669 families. They installed 430 smoke alarms and reached 1,350 students in our Pillowcase Project. Our Health and Safety Services trained 15,903 in First Aid, CPR, AED and Water Safety. The Red Cross assisted over 1,000 families in our Services t o Armed Forces. We collected 29.587 blood donations from our generous blood donors ; and WHEREAS, This is a special time to recognize and thank the Red Cross volunteers and donors who give of their time and resources to help members of the community. The Red Cross depends on these local heroes to deliver help and hope during a disaster. We applaud our heroes here in the City of Dublin who give of themselves to assist their neighbors when they need a helping hand and all those who support the American Red Cross mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Dublin City Council, do hereby proclaim March 2018 as American Red Cross Month in the City of Dublin, County of Alameda, for their invaluable work and efforts not only in our community but around the country.
