EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Parks and Community Services Commission will consider selection of a
Commission member to serve on the Public Art Selection Committee for a public art
piece honoring U.S. military veterans and active duty military personnel. The artwork will
be installed in the future Dublin Crossing Community Park.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Select a Parks and Community Services Commission member and alternate to serve on
the Public Art Selection Committee for a public art piece honoring U.S. military veterans
and active duty military personnel.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding for this public art project was included in the Adopted Five -Year Capital
Improvement Program, as Public Art- Dublin Crossing Community Park (PK0217). The
funding source is the Public Art Fund.
DESCRIPTION:
The City Council, at its February 21, 2017 meeting, approved Dublin Crossing
Community Park as a location for a public artwork honor U.S. military veterans and
those currently serving. The piece will be commissioned to celebrate the values the
military holds dear: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal
courage.
As allowed by City of Dublin’s Public Art Master Plan, the City will use a combin ation of
artist selection methods (Invitational and Pre-Qualified), inviting site-specific design
proposals from a select group of artists. Artists will be chosen for invitation by an ad hoc
Public Art Selection Committee. This committee will reconvene at later date to evaluate
proposals and recommend a design to the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission.

Staff recommended to the City Council at its September 5 meeting that the members of
the Public Art Selection Committee consist of:
· City Councilmember Melissa Hernandez, selected at the September 5 meeting;
· One representative from the Heritage and Cultural Arts Commission, to be
selected at the September 14 meeting;
· One representative from the Parks and Community Services Commission, to be
selected at the September 18 meeting;
· One representative from Boulevard, to be selected by Joe Guerra, Dublin
Crossing LLC/ Brookfield Residential developer;
· One representative from Parks Reserve Forces Training Area (PRFTA), to be
selected by PRFTA Garrison Commander Lt. Col. Gerald Hall;
· One representative from Valor Crossing, to be selected by Nhu -Ly Tran, Valor
Crossing Social Worker; and
· One Dublin resident who has volunteered to serve on public art selection
committees, to be selected by Staff with an eye toward diversity on the Public Art
Selection Committee.
Alternates will be identified for each individual.
Staff anticipates the time commitment for the members of this committee to be limited to
two evening meetings - one in late September and one in late fall or early winter. Each
meeting is expected to last no more than three hours.
