Acceptance of Work – Project No. PK0316, Shannon Center Parking Lot
Improvements

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will consider the acceptance of the Shannon Center Parking Lot
Improvements project, CIP No. PK0316. The project included the refurbishing of the
parking lot surface, replacing and adding parking lot lighting, improving drainage,
rejuvenating the landscaping, and making modifications to comply with the Americans
with Disabilities Act.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the Resolution Accepting the Shannon Center Parking Lot Improvements
(Project No. PK0316).
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The Shannon Center Parking Lot Improvements, Project No. PK0316, has a total
budget of $1,150,000, funded by the General Fund . The project is now complete, with a
total of $1,070,237 spent. The remaining budget of $79,763 will be retained in the
project to fund final project closeout expenses.
DESCRIPTION:
On July 18, 2017, the City Council awarded a contract to GradeTech, Inc. in the amount
of $852,199.30 for the Shannon Center Parking Lot Improvements, Project No. PK0316.
This project consists of refurbishing the parking lot surface, replac ing and adding
parking lot lighting, improving drainage, rejuvenating the landscaping, and making
modifications to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The project also
included the replacement of a retaining wall between the parking lot and the San
Ramon Road pedestrian trail and construction of infrastructure to support future
installation of two future electric vehicle charging stations.

One change order was issued on the project in the amount of $32,202.80. This change
order included quantity adjustments and increasing pavement grinding to equal the full
3-inches of existing asphalt in lieu of the planned 2-inches grinding and placing a 3-inch
layer of new asphalt. It is expected that this change will result in a longer useful life of
the asphalt parking lot.
Staff has determined that the projects is complete and recommends that the City
Council accept the project and begin the warranty perio d for the Shannon Center
Parking Lot Improvements, Project No. PK0316. The remaining project budget of nearly
$80,000 will be retained in the project to fund final project closeout expenses.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN

ACCEPTING THE SHANNON CENTER PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS, CIP NO. PK0316
WHEREAS, on July 26, 2017, The City of Dublin entered a contract with GradeTech, Inc.
to perform Project No. PK0316, Shannon Center Parking Lot Improvements; and,
WHEREAS, said improvements have been completed in accordance with plans and
specification, and any approved modifications thereof, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer of
the City of Dublin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does
hereby accept the improvements, Project No. PK0316, Shannon Center Parking Lot
Improvements and authorize Staff to file a Notice of Completion with Alameda C ounty.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Dublin does hereby
authorize the City Manager or his designee to release the retention, if after 35 days of filing the
Notice of Completion there are no subcontractor claims.
