A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
ESTABLISHING THE POSITION OF
ENGINEERING INTERN
WHEREAS, the Dublin City Council is desirous of improving the level of
engineering services available to the community; and
WHEREAS, the addition of a part-time employee will assist with the
demanding workload of the professional engineering staff; and
WHEREAS, the hiring of a part-time intern can be a mutual benefit by
performing important duties within the engineering department and furthering an
individual's education and experience in the area of engineering; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has allocated sufficient funds in the City's
1989-90 budget for this position.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Dublin hereby establishes the position of Engineering Intern as described in the
job description, which is attached hereto and made a part hereof; and further
establishes the following salary range for this position as shown below:

ENGINEERING INTERN
THE POSITION
Under the direction of the Public Works Director/City Engineer, performs
non-professional engineering assignments and general office work typical of an
intern/tralnee position.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assists engineering department in preparation of various engineering studies
and reports
- Conducts field surveys and inventory studies for various city programs
including sidewalk repair, pavement overlay and repair, and slurry seal programs
- Conducts traffic sign studies
- Prepares written reports on assigned projects
- Performs miscellaneous office and engineering duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Upper division student in Civil Engineering or closely related field. Academic
course work should relate to the knowledge and principles of engineering and
general office practices. Experience is not required but desirable.
Knowledge and Abilities
K~owledge of basic concepts of engineering and fundamentals of office
organization and procedures. Ability to complete assignments in a timely
manner; to fulfill specified work hour commitments; to establish and maintain
cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;
and ability to communicate in an effective manner.
License
Requires valid California Class III driver's license to be secured prior to
employment and maintained current as a condition of continued City employment.
