DESCRIPTION Completion of Stagecoach Park, a three-
quarter acre mini-park located on Stagecoach Road and Turquoise
Street, is scheduled for January of 1988. As this will be the
first of three City-owned parks to be completed in 1988, staff
feels that a park dedication ceremony should be held.
The Park and Recreation Commission considered ideas for the
dedication of Stagecoach Park at their meeting of November 11,
1987 (Exhibit A). The consensus of the Commission was that given
the time of year and size and location of the park, the
dedication ceremony should serve as an introduction of the park
to the neighborhood instead of an elaborate community
celebration. A subcommittee with Commissioners Downey and
Hernandez was appointed to work with staff on preparations for
the dedication ceremony.
The Commission has corne up with the following recommendations:
Date and Time
The Commission felt that the park should be dedicated as soon
after completion as possible. As completion is scheduled for
January, the dates of January 30 or February 6 were suggested;
both dates are Saturdays. The Commission selected morning hours
of 10a.m. to 12 Noon as most suitable so as not to interfere with
plans people might make for the remainder of the day.
Program/Theme
As the park is named Stagecoach Park, the Commission suggested
that the ceremony be planned utilizing a Stagecoach or Western
theme. Some ideas associated with the theme are as follows:
1 . Invite people to corne dressed in period clothing and
have a costume contest
2. Attempt to secure the Wells Fargo Stagecoach
3. Entertainment by a banjo band
4. Cake in the shape of a stagecoach or with a stagecoach
design and hot cider or chocolate
5. Helium balloons imprinted with a stagecoach and the
dedication date
The dedication ceremony would
speeches by local dignitaries,
