Report Prepared by: Christopher L. Foss

RECOMMENDATION: Approve the location at Fallon Road and Bent Tree Drive as the
&preferred location for Fire Station 18
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None.
DESCRIPTION: On April 18, 2000, the City Council approved the Emergency Fire /
Medical Response Plan for Service which concluded that the City will need to construct two (2) new fire
stations to serve the Eastern Dublin Planning area. In order to maintain the 5-minute response times
required of Alameda County Fire, the two stations were proposed as follows:
Fire Station 17:
Fire Station 17 was proposed for a one-acre site located at the southwest
comer of Broder and Madigan.
Fire Station 18:
Fire Station 18 was proposed for a .75 acre site located near the intersection
of Gleason Drive and Fallon Road.
With regards to Fire Station 17, the City Council will purchase the site from the Alameda County Surplus
Property Authority for $654,000. Staff anticipates that construction could begin on Station 17 during the
second quarter of 2002.
As for Fire Station 18, the proposed location of a fire station site near the intersection of Gleason Drive
and Fallon Road was selected to provide adequate fire and emergency response to the Dublin Ranch
development and points east and south. The location of this fire station site was also considered as part of
the development of Dublin Ranch Area A - the 571-unit subdivision located in the northeast portion of
Dublin Ranch. The applicant agreed to condition(s) 106 through 112 which described certain obligations
relative to the construction of a new fire station. Condition 106 specifically required that the
"Applicant/Developer shall submit a proposal to City, for city approval, describing the land to be
dedicated for the fire station site."

ITEM NO.
City and Alameda County Fire staff met with representatives of the developer (Martin Inderbitzen and
Rod Andrade) on April 5, 2001 to review the proposed potential fire station locations. It was determined
that the preferred location was a .75 acre site at the west side of the intersection ofFalIon Road and Bent
Tree Drive (see Attachment A) because: (1) it is sited at a planned median break which allows the engine
and/or track company to make unimpeded movements in any direction and (2) it is located at a controlled
intersection. The location is presently part of the proposed 52-acre Sports Park, but the developer has
made accommodations in the park site planning to maintain the necessary acreage for the park.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council approve the proposed location at
Fallon Road and Bent Tree Drive as the preferred location for Fire Station 18.
