A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF DUBLIN
SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF THE
HOSTING OF THE 1996 SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES
ON A REGIONAL BASIS
WHEREAS, the Secretary General of the United States Games has
initiated an inquiry to determine whether the City and County of San
Francisco is interested in hosting the 1996 Summer Olympic Games; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of San Francisco has asked ABAG's Executive
Board to assess the possibility of hosting the 1996 Summer Olympic Games on
a regional basis; and
WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area enjoys a temporate climate
well-suited to international competition and geographically encompasses a
number of fine athletic facilities suitable for Olympic sites; and
WHEREAS, the Bay Area can provide numerous and appropriate
accommodations to support visiting athletes and spectators; and
WHEREAS, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games would bring significant
revenues to the Bay Area and its local economies, as well as extensive
international recognition, without expending taxpayer funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Dublin hereby expresses to the Mayor of San Francisco, and to the San
Francisco Bay Area Organizing Committee for the 1996 Games, its firm
support for the concept of hosting both a Sports Festival prior to the
Olympics and the Summer Olympic Games on a regional basis in 1996 or as
soon as possible thereafter.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 9th day of February, 1987.
