SUBJECT: Amendment to Agreement with Santina and Thompson for
Engineering Services
Report Prepared by: Lee S. Thompson, Public Works Director
ATTACHMENTS: 1) Resolution and proposed amendment
2) Letter from Santina and Thompson
3) Current agreement and most recent amendments
RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution extending term of agreement for two additional
years.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Santina and Thompson provides not -to -exceed proposals for work

Spread over the past 6 years, the rate of increase averages out ter
1.38%, well below the yearly rise in the Consumer Price Index
DESCRIPTION: The City has contracted with Santina and Thompson for Engineering
Services since 1983. The current agreement was executed in 1992 and has been extended by amendment
every two years since that time. The last rate increase was approved in 1995. Staff is proposing a two-
year extension of the agreement, with a provision to allow a rate adjustment after the first year.

RE: Contract Renewal for Fiscal Year 2001-2002
Dear Mr. Thompson:
In response to your letter dated March 1,2001, on behalf of the entire firm, I would like
to thank you for the opportunity to work with yon and the rest of the City staff. Santina
& Thompson, Inc. has been providing engineering services to the City for 18+ years and
we are looking forward to continuing our valued working relationship.
In regard to your request for .any proposed changes in our contract rate schedule and/or
contract for fiscal year 2001/2002. We are satisfied with the current contract language
and do not request any revisions for the upcoming fiscal year. Unfortunately after being
able to maintain.the same charge rates to the City for over six years it is necessary for us
to make slight adjustments to our rate schedule in order to keep up with the current
escalating salary increases being driven by the engineering job market demands.
Enclosed is a rate comparison sheet for the fiscal year 2000/2001 and proposed
2001/2002.
Also enclosed is a copy of our revised rate schedule.
We look forward to working with the City in the coming years and, as always, if there is
anything we can do to improve our service to the City, please feel free to give me a call.
Sincerely,
