6.1. City Council Discussion on the Consolidation of Human Services Commission
and Parks and Community Services Commission
Staff Liaison larla reported that the City Council discussed consolidating the
Human Services Commission with the Parks and Community Services
Commission and the City Council decided to defer their decision for one year.
After the Commission received the report, there was discussion. There was
general consensus from Commissioners opposing the consolidation of the
Human Services Commission with the Parks and Community Services
Commission.
Commissioner Fiedler distributed a written statement he prepared with two
proposals:
that the Commission delegate individual Commissioners or
subcommittees to visit social service organizations serving Dublin and
report back to the Commission to raise awareness
® that every meeting of the Commission should have an item for the
Commission's consideration that would include a recommendation to the
City Council
Commissioners expressed interest in considering ways the Commission might
have more interaction with grantees and other local social service providers to
gain better understanding of the needs and services; Chair Songey also
suggested the Commissioners should try to identify ways to be more involved
regionally in issues such as homelessness and ways the Commission might be
able to support the local non-profit organizations.
It was moved (Costello/Fielder) for the Commission to have broader discussion
regarding how the Commission can interact with social service organizations,
including the possibility of creating subcommittees to visit the organizations. The
motion passed unanimously.
