ARKS & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION MINUTES

A Regular Meeting of the Dublin Parks & Community Services Commission was held on
Monday, November 18, 2019, in the Council Chamber. The meeting was called to
order at 7:00 PM, by Chairperson Michelle Smith McDonald.
1. Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance

Cm. McDonald asked Student Rep. Phaneendra to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
2. Oral Communications
2.1. Brief Informational Only Reports from the Youth Advisory and Senior
Center Advisory Committees
Student Rep. Phaneendra reported on the Youth Advisory Committee meeting
held on November 13, 2019.
Senior Center Advisory Committee Member, Susan Miller, gave an update on the
November 7, 2019 meeting.
Cm. Washington asked Ms. Miller if there were any opportunities for Dublin High
School band members to perform at events held at the Senior Center. Ms. Miller
stated that there were opportunities and the seniors would really appreciate
having high school students at their events. They exchanged contact information
to follow up on this matter.
Cm. McDonald thanked the representatives.
2.2. Public Comment
Cm. McDonald opened the floor for public comment.
Rich Guarienti, Dublin resident for 27 years and former Parks and Community
Services Commissioner, expressed concerns over the lack of maintenance of the
public artwork. "Black Pool," located at Alamo Creek Park. He stated that the

plaque associated with the artwork is hard to read and would like the city to
maintain the plaque.
2.3. Video Presentation
Cm. McDonald requested to play the video presentation.
La Shawn Butler, Parks and Community Services Director, stated that staff
wanted to share department achievements in an entertaining way, and she
hoped the Commission enjoyed the video.
The Commissioners said they enjoyed the video and that their children
participated in some of the programs highlighted in the presentation. Cm.
McDonald stated that it was good to see the attendance increase at the Wave.
3. Consent Calendar
3.1. Minutes of the October 21, 2019 Meeting of the Parks and Community
Services Commission
Approved the meeting minutes.
3.2. October PCS Department Monthly Report
Received the report.
3.3. Dublin Library Quarterly Report: July — September 2019
Received the report.

7.1. Summer 2019 Contract Classes Report
Bridget Amaya, Assistant Parks and Community Services Director, presented the
specifics of the item as outlined in the staff report.
Cm. McDonald opened the floor for questions.
The Commissioners asked about comparable data from surrounding cities, the
process for vetting new class offerings, cancelled classes, gauging popular
classes by wait lists, and the availability of PM camp connectors.
Staff responded to the Commissioners' questions.
ACTION:
The Commission received the report.
8. Other Business
The Commissioners inquired about the sign-in and sign-out procedures for the After
School Recreation programs, specifically, if there were plans to do this electronically via
a software program. Concerns were shared about tracking who is picking up the
student from the program. The Commissioners also asked for an update regarding the
new playground and lighting issues at Mape Memorial Park. Cm. Speck provided a brief
update on the Senior Center Advisory Committee meeting she attended and mentioned
that Camp Parks should be included in the Holiday Home Decorating Contest.
Staff responded to the Commissioners questions and shared program information about
the Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 5.
9. Adjournment
Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by Cm. McDonald at 7:43 PM.
