Prepared by: John Stefanski, Assistant to the City Manager
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The City Council will consider appointments, recommended by the Mayor, to the
Community Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Appoint nine members and three alternates to the Community Task Force on Equity,
Diversity, and Inclusion, as recommended by the Mayor.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost to administer the Task Force, including facilitation services, can be
accommodated within the Fiscal Year 2020-21 Adopted Budget.
DESCRIPTION:
Background
At its July 9, 2020 Special City Council Meeting, the City Council held a study session to
discuss policing and services in the City of Dublin. This study session was the result of
the City Council’s desire to discuss the national discourse surrounding police brutality
and the killing of George Floyd, as well as numerous public comments requesting a City
Council discussion and review of policing policies within the City. As a result of this
discussion, the City Council established a subcommittee of two members.
Councilmembers Josey and Kumagai were selected to further explore and develop the
scope and mechanics for a future Community Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and
Inclusion (Task Force) on policing policies and procedures.
At its September 1, 2020 meeting, the City Council approved the formation of the Task
Force based on recommendations from the subcommittee. The application period for
the Task Force began on September 14 and ended on October 14. The application was
completely electronic, facilitated on the City’s website. Staff publicized the application
period through the City’s various social media channels, emails, and targeted outreach
Page 2 of 2
to local community groups and business owners. As a result of these efforts, the City
received 70 total applications for the Task Force.
The subcommittee reviewed the applications and interviewed 28 applicants via Zoom.
Following the interviews, the subcommittee prepared its list of final recommendations to
the Mayor. The Mayor reviewed and concurs with the recommendations. Formal
appointments to the Task Force are subject to approval by the full City Council.
The Task Force will consist of nine (9) voting members with three (3) alternates. The
recommended individuals for appointment to the Task Force include:
Members
1. Matthew Aini
2. Kathy Avanzino
3. Beatriz Ballesteros-Kogan
4. Clifford Brown Jr.
5. Dyrell Foster
6. Isabella Helene David
7. Rameet Kohli
8. Eman Tai
9. Natasha Tripplett
Alternates
1. Martha Orozco
2. Brittany Jacobs
3. Denel McMahan
Members can only miss two meetings during the six-month term of the Task Force
without being replaced by an alternate. Alternates will also not be allowed to miss more
than two meetings and but will be able to participate in the discussions. Alternates will
become members in the order listed in this Staff Report. The objective of the member
and alternate model is to ensure that the City Council receives a report and
recommendations that is consistent and supported by the nine-member Task Force.
STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVE:
None.

Community Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion - Submission
#3790
Date Submitted: 10/14/2020
Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
I'm interes ted in s erving in the t as k forc e for two primary reas ons 1)I believe that equity, diversit y, and inclus ion are very
important aspec t s to optimiz e in order for s uburban c ities to be t hriving as muc h as pos sible in all as pects of cit y life and
governanc e and 2) I firmly believe that t he Dublin can s erve as both a beacon for c ities ac ros s the bay area in t erms of mak ing
progress towards diversit y, equity, and inc lus ion as well as s erve as a blueprint for suburbs ac ross the United St ates in s t riving
for the s ame goals t his task forc e is dealing with. Not t oo long ago our c ity was named Money Magaz ine's 7t h bes t plac e to live
in the country, with the progres s we can mak e via reform at the municipal level we can reaffirm and embolden why Dublin is
suc h an amazing place t o be at. The miss ion of Dublin s et by the City Council is that t he c ity: "promotes and s upports a high
quality of life, ensures a s afe and sec ure environment , fos ters new opportunities , provides equity ac ros s all programs , and
champions a c ulture of divers ity and inclusion". I've lived in Dublin all my life, and growing up here I've seen the evolving efforts
to improve the c ity in a way that is as equitable as pos s ible for thos e that reside or work here, and while there's been t urmoil in
dealing with problems of inc lus ion, diversit y, and equity elsewhere in the United States , I know that Dublin and more s pec ific ally
Dubliners have dis play ed a level of open mindednes s for our cit y to be able to implement and be the blueprint for reform that is
being c alled for in various c ities across the United States.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
Firs t and foremost I've lived Dublin my whole life, and while I may not be that old I've definitely seen and felt the change and
evolut ion of this city as well as having an immens e unders tanding of t his area aft er having been here s o long. I was old enough
to vaguely remember my own elementary s chool(John Green Elementary) being built in my neighborhood, I've seen the Dublin
Blvd streets c ape completely change from the original s c enery of mos tly open land plot s . W hat I've als o witnes s ed growing up is
an increas ingly divers e array of residents overtime as we've built new neighborhoods since t he early 2000s. I think that wit h that
as I've gone onto higher grade levels over t he y ears, there has been an inc reas ing minds et t o try and limit language and
behavior that brings an attack upon our divers ity and equity in our c ommunity. A big shift where I saw this oc cur has been
during my time in High S c hool. In my fres hman year, I think every one in the clas s of 2021 dis tinctly remembers the racially
motivat ed at tac k on a blac k female s tudent that happened which had been later ins pired a bomb t hreat agains t t he s c hool with
disagreement over how the s ituation had been handled by s c hool admin. That whole situation has been the mos t visible c ase of
an inclusivity problem that I've seen in Dublin, but over time I've also seen the tonal s hift when t alk ing about divers ity and
inclusion take a muc h great er step in a pos itive direc tion. The introduc tion of implementing the Dubversit y programming had
commenc ed and ever sinc e then I've seen the efforts to curt ail dis crimination of any k ind on Dublin campus mak e a mas s ive
improvement. That being s aid, aside from what I have s een I personally also have witnes s ed dis crimination that I can pers onally
relate to as a Mus lim-Americ an. To an extent, while I feel that over t he past c ouple of y ears in tandem with inc lus ivity efforts at
Dublin High I've seen Is lamaphobic remark s dec rease, for a long time I've seen far too many instances where joking or any
comparison of Muslims t o terroris t s have been made, and to be c ompletely hones t even if it has decreased in occ urrenc e that
behavior has bothered me. W ith regards to profes sional experienc e, I have been a s tudent organiz er as t he founder and c hapter
president of Dublin High's JSA Chapter, a non-partis an nat ional c ivic s organiz at ion fight ing y out h apat hy. Furthermore, I've als o
served on the Dublin Mayor's Council and I currently serve on the DUSD Graduation Requirements Tas k Forc e s o c ommunity
involvement is already an inc redibly familiar c oncept t o me.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
I c an dedicate 10-15 hours a mont h for work on t he Tas k Force.
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
I believe that the c hallenges facing t he c ommunity with regards t o equity are not enormous , but I t hink that with reform they will
certainly mak e a change for the better in Dublin. I think t hat a cit y -wide educ ation program on being mindful others in order to
be a more inc lus ive c ommunity will be the mos t far reac hing initiat ive that this c ity can undertak e. For example, the cit y c ouncil
can take time t o recogniz e various cultures via c ounc il res olutions or declaring s ome les s er known c ultural holidays a c ity
holiday. Aside from that, I believe that t he other key prec aut ion that the city should tak e as we've s een a lot of rac ial tens ions
es c alat e this past s ummer is s eeing what areas we can reform t o mak e s ure that the public trust bet ween the Dublin
community and Dublin polic e c ont inue to stay very s t rong. The #8Cantwait reforms in partic ular are s omet hing that I've found
partic ularly interes ting and as long as we make those reforms overtime and in the proc ess ens ure that the conversation being
had is very civil, I t hink that c ultural/rac ial problems in Dublin will stay a minimal iss ue.

As res ident of Dublin s inc e 1983, I am look ing at retiring early from a 30+ y ear c areer in grantmak ing and financ ing of affordable

What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I c urrently s erve on the Board/Loc al Advis ory Commit tee of Bay Area LISC, a local affiliate of LISC, a national CDFI, that
provides financ ing and res ources t o low-income and unders erved communities , partic ularly thos e of people of color. I am a

What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
As with many bay area communities , affordable hous ing is one of the key c omponents to provide s tabilit y to many low &
moderate inc ome hous eholds and families . Money has and alway s will be the driver or the barrier to wealth building, whether
through homeowners hip opportunities , educ ational opportunities , financial literac y, and equal and equitable opport unities in the
workplac e, as well as support for small bus iness development. In addit ion, as a white female, one of privilege, I have never
faced the challenges with law enforcement t hat people of color have ex perienc ed, but as part of my role on this t as k forc e, I'd
hope that we c an work to make certain there is always equitable t reatment for all of our c itizens .

Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
I c an s ay with pride that I have been a res ident of the beautiful c ity of Dublin for almost a dec ade. I was very happy to see that
Dublin is creating a New Community Tas k Forc e on Equity, Divers ity, and Inc lus ion. I am int eres ted in s erving on t his Task
Force bec aus e I value living in a c ommunity in whic h all individuals feel welcome and feel that t heir voices are heard. I feel very
fortunate to have neighbors from divers e back grounds . I t hink that divers ity brings richness t o a community. I think t hat it is
imperative for a cit y to hold values that fos ter inc lus ivenes s. I would feel honored to s erve in this Tas k Forc e and help develop
recommendat ions for training, polic ies and public engagement that highlight t he beautiful diversit y of our c ity and that help in all
feeling welc ome and heard.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I am a s ocial work er and in my line of work I cons tant ly strive to listen to t he needs of those t hat are mos t vulnerable and
advoc ate so their voic es are heard. I pride my s elf in treat ing all wit h respect and dignity and apprec iate helping and s erving
people from all walk s of life. I am someone who views all forms of diversity as something that enriches the community that we
live in. As a daughter of parents who immigrated from Mexico, I am able to s hed light on the c hallenges that many fac e when
they do not feel fully welcome.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
I am able to dedic at e 6 hours per month to the partic ipat ion and work for the Tas k Forc e.
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
I think a c hallenge that is being faced by the c ommunit y is at times lack ing a bett er unders tanding of divers e c ultural traditions
and c elebrations . I t hink that we c an als o work on as s uring that members of the LGB TQ community feel that they are heard
and respected. An additional c hallenge is lac k ing informat ion, provided by the city, that is translated in the diverse languages
that are spok en in our communit y.

Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
As a bi-racial male of c olor (Korean/Blac k ), I have been pas s ionate about is s ues related to equit y, divers ity, and inc lus ion as far
bac k as I can remember. Not only am pas s ionate about this work in my pers onal live (I serve as a Board Member for the
A2MEND organization) which focus es on empowering black males in education, partic ularly in c ommunity c olleges ; I am
engaged in this professionally. From my pers onal (and profes s ional) ex perienc es, I believe t hat I have a lot t o offer/cont ribute to
helping the Tas k Forc e develop recommendat ions for the City Council t o effectively addres s iss ues/c onc erns related to equity,
divers ity, and inc lus ion for our community.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I've been a community c ollege adminis trator for the past 20 y ears . As part of my work, I've been a part of developing student
equity plans for various c ommunity c olleges . As the President of Las Pos itas College, I'm c hairing a Pres ident 's Task Force
charged with developing a Call of Action for our college, whic h inc ludes int ent ional efforts to addres s long s t anding is s ues of
equity, divers ity and inclus ion. I would share t hose efforts, along with other personal and profes s ional ex periences , that would
pos itively contribute to helping this Tas k Forc e meet its charge.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
I am able to dedic at e 10-12 hours a month t o s upport the work of the Task Force.
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
I am new t o the Tri-Valley, as my family (my wife, daught er -8, s on -6, and I) rec ently moved t o Livermore at the end of A ugus t
from Orange County. W it h respec t to equity, it would be important to dis aggregate key data by demographic s to truly
unders tand what the challenges are, in regards to educational at tainment, home owners hip, unemploy ment rat e, median
household income, et c . and build s t rategies and mak e informed decisions bas ed on the dat a. I t hink it would also be important
to hear from the res idents in t he c ommunity regarding the c hallenges that they see wit h res pect to equit y.

I applaud t he City Counc il for tak ing the initiative to establis h this very important Task Force. As the President of Las Pos itas

Community Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion - Submission
#3762
Date Submitted: 10/12/2020
Please state why you are interested in serving on the Task Force.*
For nearly my entire life, I have lived in Dublin. I grew up here. I deeply care for my community and wish to step up and
advocate for my fellow residents. As an Asian American, I feel a responsibility to apply as Asians make up 45% of Dublin’s
population. As a Filipino American, I felt a responsibility to apply as Filipinos make up the 2nd largest immigrant population and
the largest Asian population in California. I want to get involved in any way that I can to help Dublin become more inclusive and
equitable. I want to learn more about what can be done to make positive change. Most of the work I have done so far to help
has been through the Dublin Inclusion Project. If my skills and perspectives would be valuable to the task force, then I would be
more than happy to provide them.
What relevant life or professional experience makes you a good candidate for this Task Force?*
Life experience: I am a bisexual, genderfluid, female, Filipino child of immigrants who has experienced clinically diagnosed
depression and has ADHD. My parents lived in poverty in the Philippines. They were brought here as children to seek a better
life. Both of my parents grew up as immigrants in the United States, and my father is a veteran of the U.S Army. Because my
intersectional identity and familial ties represent many different marginalized communities, I can relate to and understand a vast
spectrum of Dublin's demographic. I understand how race relations, immigrant experience, mental health issues, and other
aspects of identity can affect both the personal and systemic aspects of Dublin residents’ daily lives. My personal
experiences have granted me with the empathy and openness needed to learn more about what others go through. Professional
experience: Working as a Standardized Patient at Stanford University, I collaborated with medical professionals, professors,
students, and exam proctors in order to lead constructive learning exercises that teach empathy to Stanford’s future and
existing doctors. These learning exercises are meant to teach doctors how to respectfully and effectively navigate difficult
interactions with patients reflecting a diverse population: how to help victims of domestic abuse, how to talk through an
interpreter while still making the patient feel seen, how to handle a minor with an STD that her mother doesn’t know about,
etc. From my work as a teacher for EDCC at Amador Elementary School, I have seen firsthand how children in Dublin benefit
from seeing media, teachers, and learning curriculum that represent their background and identity. I have also seen how lack of
diversity in media, teachers, and learning curriculum can lead to bullying and lack of self confidence in children. From my job
as a sales associate at Fitness 19 Dublin, I regularly interacted with members who were elderly or disabled who would benefit
greatly from more resources of accessibility in Dublin. There are also many gym members who do not speak English well, and
need to bring their children to all of their appointments just to translate for them. I have been part of The Dublin Inclusion Project
since the organization was created. I am part of its Social Media Committee and I am the Committee Leader for the Book Club
& Educational Resources Committee. Every job I’ve had has shown me how important it is for people to feel seen, safe,
and advocated for. My work experience has amalgamated in me a combination of skills in leadership, collaboration, and
empathy that will benefit the task force.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participation and work for the Task Force?*
As much as needed. My schedule is currently very flexible and will stay that way throughout the term of the task force.
What, do you believe, are the challenges facing this community with respect to equity?*
Areas of equity I believe Dublin can improve on: Policing (especially in its past treatment of people with disabilities: e.g. Jin v.
Alameda County,) better mental health resources in schools, more resources for those who don’t speak English, resources
for newly immigrated students/residents to better adjust to Dublin, city events that celebrate diversity, more diversity/inclusion
in school curriculum and staff, better resources for members of the LGBT+ community in schools (gender neutral bathrooms,
policies that prevent deadnaming/misgendering, more inclusive sexual education, etc)
Other comments.*
I am thrilled that this task force has been created. I hope that the continuous push to advocate for Dublin residents of all
backgrounds will instill an even stronger sense of unity in our city.

Community Task Force on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion - Submission

Date Submitted: 10/14/2020
Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
Throughout my life and c areer, I have been an advoc ate for equity, divers ity, and inc lusion in the communit ies I have lived in, t he
workplac es I have oc cupied, and the s chools I have attended. I want to bring my ex perience and pas sion in this iss ue to help
continue to mak e Dublin a great, safe and inclus ive plac e to work and live.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
Throughout my life and c areer I have lived and work ed in divers e c ommunities and workplac es across our c ountry. I have worked
in the public sec tor, including for the US House of Repres entatives and the Dublin Planning Commission, where I have foc used
on issues of equity, divers ity and inclusion t hat impact our cit y and c ountry as a whole (e.g. fair hous ing prac tic es, equal rights
for Native American, ass is tanc e for minority -owned s mall bus ines ses , et c .). I have spent t ime in the international development
arena working for t he US Agency for International Development and FHI360 where I foc used my efforts on improving human
rights for vulnerable populations around the globe. I am also a Board Member for Dublin Partners In E ducation where we are
working hard to ens ure Dublin's students are learning in a divers e and inclusive environment , and rec eive equal ac c ess and
treatment no matter which sc hool they attend and which part of Dublin they live in. And finally, as a s mall busines s owner
myself, I have made equity, divers ity and inclusion a core prac t ic e and principle in my company.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
25-50 hours a month
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
The demographics of Dublin have drastic ally changed over the las t dec ade. However that change has not s pread geographically
equally ac ros s our City which has resulted in a build up of tension over the y ears and created a s ens e of "divis ion" between t he
eas tern and wes tern part s of Dublin. I think the current c limat e in our c ountry has als o further enflamed t his tension and
division. I believe that people in Dublin tend to stay on "their side" of t he City and there is a lac k of communication and
soc ialization whic h has been furt her ex ac erbated by t he Covid pandemic . But I don't think all is lost . I do believe that with s ome
effort and commitment we c an reduce t hese growing tens ions and do away with imaginary boundaries of eas t and wes t,
bringing a feeling of equit y and inc lus ivenes s across Dublin.
Other comments .*
This is an is s ue that is near and dear to my heart. W e are living in a time in our c ountry where the idea of unity is c rumbling
under the weight of divis ion. Mis infomation is running rampant and, rather than s eeking the trut h, people are surrounding
themselves with s ycophants to give themselves a false sense of s afety and s ec urity. B ut we c an beat bac k this s hadow of fear
and hate that is slowly enveloping our nation and t his effort s t arts at t he loc al c ommunity level. I want t o be a part of the
movement that helps mak e equit y, diversit y and inc lus ion once again the core values that we all s tand by and believe in.

Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
I am a Mus lim woman who wears a s c arf as part of my spiritual obs ervance. As s uch, I often find that I am being judged by the
superficial rather than the internal. W ork ing towards building an inc lusive, divers e communit y helps everyone learn t o c heris h
and respect one another differences . Dublin has alway s been a warm welcoming place for me and my family. I'd lik e to see if
continue to remain t his way at this time of growth in our c ity.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I am a Bay Area native who moved to Dublin 8 y ears ago. I am the proud mom of two boy s 9 and 12 y ears old. I am a nonprofit
complianc e attorney. The nonprofits I work with are foc used on c ivil rights, civic engagement, immigration and jus t ice s y s t em
reform as well as equity in education. W ork ing on this tas k force I'd be able to utiliz e my professional ex perienc e to bett er my
community.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*

What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
There are a lot of mis c onc eptions about the c ollec tion of information about rac e, gender and other protected class es . There
seems to be an idea that by t ak ing thes e into acc ount we are lowering the standards for some groups rather than s imply
as s uring that they are given adequate ac c ess t o opportunities and t hat those wit h authorit y do not use that authority to
adversely affec t cert ain groups while overly acc ommodat ing others. These mis unders tandings of the purpos e of equity and
divers ity polic ies /legislation c reates hy s t erical res pons es from the general public. E ducating people about the purpose of the
task forc e, t he neces s ity of addressing these issues and creating policies that give everyone a seat at the t able are all
important c hallenges we fac e.

Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
As a woman who has frequently been in s paces as a "bridge" person, c onnecting people across many different lines , I am
int eres ted in work ing on is s ues t hat can bring our c ity toget her. Our nation, s tate and community are so divided. There are deep
hurts among our c ommunity and I want t o be a part of the s olution t hat can help us grow t ogether as we c elebrate and learn
from our res pective c ultures . My family moved to Dublin 8 y ears ago from Indiana. W e were drawn t o this particular Bay A rea
cit y becaus e of t he divers ity and the opportunit y for our children to grow up alongs ide children who were different from t hem.
This is a value for us. Our family is multiet hnic , celebrating Blac k, Jewis h, Jamaic an and Dutc h c ultures . It is not an option to
ac c ept divis ion. Dublin has s o much to offer and I would like t o s ee the value of diversit y be intentionally s howcas ed in our
community. My hope is t hat Dublin c an be a model c ity for ot her communities to emulate.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I have worked on behalf of equity and inc lus ion my entire life. I was adopted as a baby into a white, Dutc h home. I was
frequently in spac es as t he only pers on of c olor. This propelled me on a lifelong journey of learning about different c ultures . I
was fasc inated. In high s c hool, I s tart ed a mult ic ultural c lub where we got together and talk ed about ways we could uplift
marginaliz ed groups of people. In college, I intentionally lived in a multic ultural dorm, grouped with people from all walk s of life in
the US and internationally. My graduate degree is in Social W ork. W ith that degree, I practic ed as an adoption soc ial work er,
bringing toget her families from different backgrounds. I taught cultural sensitivity c las ses for prospective adoptive parents.
Current ly, I am one of the c o-founders and c o-c oordinat ors of a profes s ional writer's group c alled Tapes try of Voices . W e are
part of the San Franc is c o North and Eas t Bay Area region of the Soc iety of Children's Book W riters and Illus trat ors (SCBW I) -
an int ernational organization. Tapes try of Voic es is an initiat ive that s eek s to c elebrate all voices and look s for ways t o uplift and
support underrepres ent ed c reators of c hildren's literat ure. I am als o a c hildren's book writer who foc uses on telling stories that
highlight divers e pers pec tives .
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
I c an dedicate 10-15 hours a mont h to the task forc e.
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
One of the bigges t challenges for our c ommunity is overcoming t he fear of say ing or doing the wrong thing. I think that the
people in Dublin have the heart for equity and inclus ion, but don't know how to embrac e action. No one wants people to feel
marginaliz ed. Dublin needs to be more intentional with how we c elebrate t he rich community of people we have living here. W e
need to harnes s the spirit of "togethernes s" and develop a plan that embrac es all of our c itizens . Many of the minorities here
have felt overlooked and not included in t he images that Dublin s howcas es. W e have a great opport unity to c hange that,
change the reput ation of Dublin (as a rac ist c ommunity ), and s howcas e the beauty of who we really are, what we s tand for, and
what we have to offer.
Other comments .*
I am really enc ouraged that Dublin is tak ing the is s ues of diversity, equity and inc lusion s eriously. Our c ity is not perfec t and we
will never pleas e everyone, but ac t ively taking steps forward, to set our vis ion on a more inc lus ive c ommunit y, is a HUGE s t ep. I
want to thank our leaders for mak ing this a priority. Jus t as s ilenc e is a stat ement , s o is the active purs uit of a more equit able
and inc lus ive c ommunity.

Pl eas e s tate why you are interes ted in s erving on the Tas k Force.*
I believe that prioritizing diversit y, equity and inclusion creates an environment that res pec ts and values individual differenc e. In
addition, it minimizes bias , whic h c an create dis advant age for cert ain individuals . Being part of the t as k forc e allows me to
ens ure my part ic ipation with a c ollaborat ive team to ens ure a more inc lus ive environment for my c hildren and others in the
community.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I grew up in Dublin. I have ex perienced life of a Dublin Unified s c hools St udent from K -11th grade. During my s t udent y ears in
Dublin, I have felt lik e my differenc es were not welc omed in a c ommunity I wanted to be a part of. Now as a parent Dublin of two
students , I do not want my c hildren or any other pers ons child to feel lik e they don’t belong. In addition, my profes s ional
ex perienc e as a res earc h c oordinador for a nonprofit allows me to understand diverse groups and talk about is sues addressIng
equity and inclusion.
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
20 hours
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
Full partic ipat ion of s ome groups need to be addres s ed by confronting barriers they are fac ing, whether its cult ural differenc e or
language barriers.we need to addressing the root caus es outcome disparities our c ommunity faces .
Other comments .*
It’s important for any individual or group of Dublin res idents to feel welcomed, res pected, s upported, and valued to fully
partic ipate in ac t ivities tak ing plac e in t he c ity. E ns uring that we treat eac h pers on as unique, and recogniz ing their individual
differenc es allows the community as a whole to c elebrate the ric h dimens ions of eac h pers ons ’ individuality whic h mak e
our c ity a great plac e to live.

I feel pass ionat ely about building a strong, diverse c ommunity and I s ee s o muc h opportunity in Dublin to be that. But we're not
going to get there without s t rong local leadership. I'm involved in loc al advoc ac y and organiz ing and would lik e to be able t o
leverage that into deeper c onversations and c oncrete ac t ion.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I'm a white woman who has had to learn as an adult about sy s temic rac is m. I work in my day job to dis mantle s y s t emic racis m
in K-12 public sc hools nationwide and I very much want to work loc ally. Much of my family growing up were police offic ers in
Alameda County and s o I have a lifelong ex perience with t hem. I also realiz e now as an adult how much the "us vs them"
mentality infiltrates polic e depart ments . Finally, as a c ons ultant, my job often includes facilitating adults , helping adults adopt
new mindsets and sk ills , and c ommunic at ing clearly. These skills would serve me well in a tas k forc e s uc h as this .
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
3-4 hours regularly, plus more occ asionally
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
Mis unders tanding and fear driven by is olat ion from those who are different from us . Segregation and separation are k ey
components of remaining unequal.
Other comments .*
Thank you for moving this tas k force into ac tion. I'm really hoping to partic ipate.

I want t o s erve on the task forc e becaus e Social Justic e has become my pass ion over the last 6 months. I think we can take
this time to enhanc e Dublin's divers ity and enc ourage community dis c uss ion. I want more POC to be able t o feel c omfortable
having a voice in their local government . I also want to bring a different pers pec tive to the cit y of Dublin and have an impac t
during my las t y ear here.
What rel evant life or profes s ional experience mak es you a good candidate for this Tas k Force?*
I'm t he c urrent Blac k Student Union President at the High Sc hool. I've held lives t reams to s pread awarenes s and educ at e other
students . I've been interviewed by different s tudent s and organiz ations, lik e the Part h and Pratham Show and The Dublin Shield.
I've als o been interviewed by Ris hi Kumar, the Congres s ional Candidate for Dis tric t 18 of California. I'm als o working with our
Video Produc tion to create c ons c ious segments that truly educate and spread awareness t o our students .
How many hours per month can you dedicate to the participati on and work for the Tas k Force?*
I c an dedicate about 8 hours per week , so about 32 hours per month. Soc ial Jus tic e is something I'm very pas s ionate in, s o I'm
willing to do whatever I c an to do the job to the best of my ability.
What, do you believe, are the challeng es facing this community with res pect to equity?*
W hile I believe that Dublin is pretty Equit able, I believe that the POC don't really have an opportunity to rais e their voic e and
contribute to our loc al government. I also t hink that we c an give t he opport unity t o our high school s tudent s s inc e they are t he
