SENIOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES Thursday, April 41 2019 A Regular Meeting of the Senior Advisory Committee was held on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Dublin Senior Center. The meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m. by Committee Chair Michele Wayland. 1. Call to Order and Pledge of Allegiance u 2. Oral Communications 2.1. One member of the public, Rich Guarienti, attended. He offered information on how the Senior Supporter card is used and viewed by seniors, recommendations on the program, and noted that the program has become easier to use and understand over the time of implementation. 3. Consent Calendar 3.1. Approve the minutes of the March 7, 2018 Regular Senior Advisory Committee meeting. On a motion by CM Christine Sevier, seconded by CM Connie Mack, and by a vote of 5-0-0, the Senior Advisory Committee took the following action: ACTION Approved the minutes of the March 7, 2019 Regular Meeting as presented. 3.2. February 2019 Monthly Report Ms. Liz Elliott, Recreation Coordinator, presented the item as outlined in the Staff Report. Forty-one more lunches were served in February compared to January, and 310 more people participated in programs as compared to January. The first Deaf Support Group, a new service at the Dublin Senior Center, began on February 14. It will be held the second Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 SemorAdvisory Committee February 7, 2019 �gular9Keeting 2' a g e � 1 each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will include presentations and social interaction, and is free to anyone wanting to attend. ACTION The Committee received the report. 4. Written Communication None. 5. Public Hearing None. 6. Unfinished Business None. 7. New Business 7.1. Dublin Senior Foundation Presentation Staff presented an overview of the Dublin Senior Foundation, a non-profit 501 c (3) organization whose mission is to promote the growth and development of the Dublin Senior Center, provide seniors with community service opportunities, and support programs that meet the needs of Dublin -area seniors, including history of the program, and what items and services the Foundation has provided to the Dublin Senior Center. The Committee also heard a presentation from Diane Bonetti, Vice President of the Dublin Senior Foundation. Ms. Bonetti discussed the Bingo program, that includes weekly Bingo on Wednesdays, and two, special, themed Bingo events he Spring Fling Bingo in March each year, and the Luau Bingo that will be held on September 7, 2019. Ms. Bonetti also listed items the Foundation has fully or partially funded for the Dublin Senior, including the Dublin Senior Center Marquee, benches for outside and inside use, ping gong tables, a percentage of the Dublin Senior Center van, and most recently nine atomic clocks for the facility. Funds are raised through Foundation events, and the Dublin Senior Foundation Donor Wall, a wall with plaques of all large donors. The Foundation board meets the first Wednesday each month at 9 a.m. in the Dublin Senior Center conference room. Staff presents a Wish List each year of items needed and wanted for the facility. Senior Advisory Committee members thanked the Foundation for their presentation, asked questions about volunteering at Foundation events, and commented that seniors love the bingo program. 8. Other Business The Advisory Committee members and Staff provided brief reports on meetings attended and upcoming events. CM Sue Woods agreed to attend the April Parks and Community Services Commission meeting and provide the Senior Advisory Committee report. CM Christine Sevier presented information on Connected Horse, an equine therapy program for seniors with dementia. There will be a meeting and training for care givers and others in the senior community on Friday, April 26. Ms. Elliott informed the Committee the City will be implementing a new class registration software as of fall 2019. She informed the committee of upcoming City events, including Dublin Pride week, and reviewed the success of the St. Patrick's Day festival held by the City on March 15-17. Ms. Elliott also informed the Committee that she had selected and is serving as the Aging Representative on the California Parks & Recreation Society District 3 Board. She will attend monthly board meetings, and keep the Committee informed of aging news in all of California recreation, and share information with that board about information discussed at DSCAC meetings. Ms. Elliott also reminded the Committee the P&CS Department is embarking on a Parks and Recreation Master Plan update. A consultant has been hired to assist the City. A public meeting will be held on April 11 at 7pm in the RMR room at Civic Center, and the public is invited to come ask questions and offer input and encouraged them to attend. 9.
