~ STAFF REPORT CITY CLERK
~ CITY COUNCIL File #820-80
~~Llr~ou~'`~
DATE: October 4, 2011
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers
FROM: Joni Pattillo, City Manager
SUBJECT: Parking Designation on Antone Way
Prepared by Jaimee Bourgeois, Transportation & Operations Manager
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
While on-street parking is allowed on Antone Way, there is insufficient width at the east end
where there exists a center median. While vehicles have been known to park along this section,
particularly during school drop-off and pick-up times, it is recommended that, in the interest of
public safety, "No Parking" zones be designated on the north and south sides of the street.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost to paint the curb red can be accommodated in the Fiscal Year 2011-2012 Street
Maintenance Operating Budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the' City Council adopt the resolution approving parking regulation on
Antone Way.

DESCRIPTION:
Antone Way is a two lane residential collector that connects Fallon Road to the east and Dublin
Ranch Drive to the west. Intermediate intersecting streets include Grafton Street and
Bridgepointe Drive. Between the two intersecting streets, Antone Way fronts Green Elementary
School. During school drop-off and pick-up times, drivers park within the school parking lot as
well as on-street along Antone Way and Bridgepointe Drive. Vehicles have been known to park
along most of the length of Antone Way east of Bridgepointe Drive. On the east end of Antone
Way, there exists a center median approximately 80 feet in length immediately west of Fallon
Road. Adjacent to the median, it is very difficult for a moving vehicle to pass if a vehicle is
parked, particularly on the north (westbound) side of the street. As such, a 150-foot "No
Parking" zone is recommended on the north side of the street (Attachment 1). Because there
are two turn lanes (for Antone Way eastbound traffic) and insufficient width to accommodate a
parking lane on the south side of the street, a 150-foot "No Parking" zone is recommended on
the south side as well, although no vehicles have been observed by City staff parking on this
section. In all, 300 feet of parking will be prohibited; although based on observation, this will
only displace two or so vehicles that typically park on the north side. Additional space is
available elsewhere on street to accommodate the displaced vehicles.
A resolution (Attachment 2) is included that would designate 150 feet of "No Parking" zones on
the north and south side of Antone Way west of Fallon Road. The Traffic Safety Committee,
comprised of Public Works engineering and maintenance staff and Police Services, has
reviewed and supports this recommendation. The Traffic Safety Committee, comprised of
Public Works engineering and maintenance staff and Police Services, reviewed and supports
this recommendation.
NOTICING REQUIREMENTS/PUBLIC OUTREACH:
No noticing required as there are no houses fronting the recommended street sections. A copy
of the staff report has been provided to Dublin Unified School District.
