SUBJECT: Update on Shop Local Holiday Campaign

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
One of the City Council's FY 2011/12 strategic initiatives for Economic Development is to
"Explore a Shop Local Holiday Campaign". To that end, the City has partnered with the Dublin
Chamber of Commerce to launch a Shop Local Holiday Campaign using social media. The goal
of the campaign is to encourage and increase shopping throughout the City of Dublin during the
holidays. This report will provide an update on the Shop Local Holiday Campaign.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Costs relating to the promotion of the campaign are expected to be approximately $2,500.
These funds have been included in the FY 2011/12 budget.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council accept the report.

DESCRIPTION:
Per the City Council's strategic initiatives for Economic Development to explore a Shop Local
Holiday Campaign, the City has partnered with the Dublin Chamber of Commerce to launch a
Shop Local Holiday Campaign via social media. The goal of the campaign is to encourage and
increase shopping throughout the City of Dublin during the holidays. This campaign is a Dublin
Chamber of Commerce led initiative that the City will be supporting
The Chamber will use their Facebook page to launch a separate page designated for the Shop
Local Holiday Campaign. The creation of this page will allow local businesses to add their
business profile, store promotions, product features, and store events. Followers to the

Facebook page would then be notified, and would be able to "like" an announcement or event.
The information would then be reflected on their personal pages for their network to look at,
which would continue to market the program and draw customers to our local businesses.
At the request of the Chamber's Board of Directors, City Staff worked with the Chamber to
develop a slogan and logo that would be inclusive of all businesses. The logo (Attachment 1)
will read as follows:
SHOP • DINE • SAVE
Discover Dublin for the Holidays
Staff presented the campaign to the Economic Development Ad-Hoc Committee which provided
positive feedback on the campaign. Staff will continue working with the Chamber to issue a
press release announcing the campaign, and will provide printed materials marketing the
campaign in businesses throughout the City to direct residents and businesses to the Facebook
page.
