FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
There is $49,000 budgeted for construction costs for this project in
Fiscal Year 2007-2008.
DESCRIPTION: This wooden soundwall was constructed in 1988 along the western
side of San Ramon Road as noise mitigation for the widening of San Ramon Road from two lanes to four.
When the City built the fence, easements were obtained to construct the fence, and the City retained the
right, but not the responsibility, to maintain the road side of the fence. The City has chosen to conduct this
painting project to insure the repair of any broken areas, and to optimize the aesthetics of the wall by
applying a uniform stain across the entire length of the wall.
At the time of construction, the fence was treated with two shades of brown wood stain. Over the years,
the colors have faded and the wood has weathered. This project would repair the damaged face panels,
then repaint the fence to bring back the color and extend the life of the wood.
Plans and specifications are now ready for public bid. Staff recommends that the City Council authorize
the solicitation of bids for Contract No. 08-01, San Ramon Road Wooden Soundwall Repair & Painting.
