Approve request to hang the Donors Plaque at the Dougherty Hills Dog Park or provide alternate direction FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None DESCRIPTION: In February 2006, the City Council elected to include a public art element into the Dougherty Hills Dog Park project. The Dublin Fine Arts Foundation agreed to commission the project as part of their Art in the Parks program. In December 2006, The City Council approved an agreement with artist Michele M. Alcantara and the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation to complete the artwork. After completion, the City Council accepted the artwork in September 2007. The total cost of the artwork was $20,000. As with other Art in the Park projects, the City agreed to contribute one-quarter of the artwork costs. The remaining three-quarters of the artwork costs were paid for by the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation and donations received. As a show of recognition and appreciation for the donors that contributed a total of $3,596.49 towards the artwork costs, the Dublin Fine Arts Foundation would like to display a plaque acknowledging each individual and business for their donations. The plaque, as shown in Attachment 1, will be a 2 square-foot image of a paw print inscribed with a note of appreciation and a listing of each donor. The plaque will be made of aluminum composite (brand name DiBond@), which is made of two sheets of painted aluminum with a solid polyethylene core. This material is lightweight, sturdy and resistant to weather and rust. The plaque will be coated with a topcoat to prevent fading from ultra-violet rays. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COpy TO: Dublin Fine Arts Foundation Page 1 of2 ITEM NO. -2. 3 G:\COUNCIL\Agenda Statements\2008\7-l5 Dougherty Hills Dog Park Donors Plaque.doc The plaque will be attached to the chain link fence between the large and small dog areas, placing it in view at each entrance of the Park.
