RECOMMENDATION: ~l) Staff recommends that the City Council review and discuss two \ Councilmember appointments to the Dublin Pride Week Committee. ~ 2) Staff recommends that the City Council confirm the appointments for the limited term of December 2006 through December 2007 or provide additional direction. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None. DESCRIPTION: Individual members ofthe City Council represent the City of Dublin on various local and regional boards/committees/commissions. As a result of the November elections, several openings have occurred on these bodies. One ofthese vacancies has occurred on the Dublin Pride Week Committee. Traditionally, Dublin Pride Week has had two Councilmembers appointed to its committee. Previously, Vice Mayor Kasie Hildenbrand and Councilmember Claudia McCormick served as Council's representatives. Currently, Vice Mayor Hildenbrand has participated in the Pride Week Committee's first meeting for Pride Week activities occurring in 2007. The first meeting occurred December 13,2006. At the current time, Pride Week Committee Meetings are tentatively scheduled to occur once a month on a Wednesday, and each meeting starts at about 1 :30 in the afternoon. Generally, this meeting schedule continues through the month of February. As Pride Week approaches, more frequent meetings become necessary. As a result, the Pride Week Committee will meet on a bi-weekly basis beginning in March and continue in such a manner until Pride Week activities begin. By way of general overview, Dublin Pride Week is an annual event that seeks to promote a positive image for the City of Dublin. The primary objective for Dublin Pride Week is to seek ways to engage individuals and/or groups in action based activities to help improve the community. The Pride Week Committee is at the forefront of this effort. Additionally, Councilmember participation is a key component of this committee and the ultimate success of Pride Week activities. As such, the appointment oftwo Councilmembers to this committee is being deliberated for the limited term beginning December 2006 and ending December 2007.
