CITY CLERK File # D~[QCJ-aJ[5] AGENDA STATEMENT CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: July 5,2005 SUBJECT: Authorization to Solicit Bids for Contract No. 05-08, 2004-2005 Annual Slurry Seal Program Report Prepared by: Melissa Morton, Public Works Director ATTACHMENTS: 1) 2) Map of streets to be slurry sealed Specification to be available at the City Council meeting RECOMMENDATIO~:;:J> A.fh."', """", ",..,rtiw fro,i",. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The following is the FY 2005-2006 budget for this capital project: TOTAL: FY 2005-2006 Budget $ 45,680 $ 710,500 $ 756.180 ITEMS OF WORK Salaries/inspections/miscellaneous: hnprovements This project is funded by Gas Tax monies (Fund 206). The budget for 2005-2006 includes improvements to be completed as part of the 2004-2005 Annual Slurry Seal Program, as well as the 2005-2006 Annual Slurry Seal Program scheduled for early Summer 2006. DESCRIPTION: Slurry seal is a preventative maintenance technique used to prolong the life of asphalt concrete surfacing. As streets begin showing wear and stress cracking, it is important to seal the cracks to keep water fÌom getting into the roadway subgrade. Slurry consists of a sand/oil mixture which seals cracks and provides a new uniform wearing surface. The City's Pavcment Management Program provides funding guidelines and priorities for properly maintaining City streets. City streets are slurry sealed approximately every five to scven years, depending upon the level ofwcar. Funding for the 2004-2005 Program was rolled over into the Fiscal Year 2005-2006 budget. The total amount budgeted for the Slurry Seal Program will fund not only the 2004-2005 Program, but also the 2005"2006 Program, which is scheduled for early Summer 2006. -----------------------------------------------~~------------------------ COPIES TO: \ 00'- G:IMAINT PROJECTSISLURRY seALIFY 2004-2005\AS authorize, doc ITEMNO.~ Q...
