1. Why are you interested in service on the Senior Center Advisory Committee?
Aging is not for cowards. While many outstanding examples exist today of
elderly adults overcoming physical, mental and emotional hurdles, many elderly
adults in our community are simply struggling with day to day living. It takes
courage and detennination to continue to have a high quality oflife and a healthy
sense of well being.
As a newly retired person, I an1 interested in using my strong business
development, executive board, and management skills to work with community
organizations, the public, and the City of Dublin to provide safe, interesting, and
healthy programs for seniors.
2. What knowledge do you have of the programs and services offered for clder
adults at the Dublin Senior Center'?
Currently I am a Senior Center Supporter and participant in several
pro grams.
3. Have you or a family member taken advantagc of the programs and services
offered at thc Dublin Senior Center?
Yes, my husband, Brent, and I recently moved my 85 year old Mother to
Wieklow Square. She and I participate in several programs on a weekly basis-
programs ranging from lunches to games tu computers to Medicare. We are very
grateful tlX the beautiful senior apartment Dublin provided and the obvious care
taken in planning the facility and its location nex:t to the Senior Center. These two
Facilities have already significantly improved the quality of her life.
4. Are thcre additional programs needed for elder adults in our community?
Please describe.
The strong leadership in Dublin has already created a wonderful new Senior
Center with necessary and interesting programs. Perhaps it is time to create a
master plan for senior services? The explosive growth and changing
demo/;,'raphies for Dub1in may present a need to review the Senior Center
Strategie Plan, build upon it and grow a broader plan to engage and meet the
needs of the citizens who will be arriving in the new communities (e.g., West
Dublin Bart -- Fallon Village). This may involve ex:panding the scope and
breadth of the senior services to encompass serving the elder population in a more
distributed manner while maintaining the Senior Center as an important strategic
hub. New programs could be developed based upon an assessment of the current
and projected demographic needs, City Master Plan Schedule and funding.
Ideally programs would be designed fur different segments of the senior
population (men of certain demographics, women uf certain demographics, etc.).
