WHEREAS, the Ame6can Red Cross Bay Area was founded in 189& and
WHEREAS, compassion, courage, character, dvic duty are inherent in the Red Cross mission to prevent and relieve human suffedn3 and
Dublin shares these grand ideals; and
WHEREAS, the Red Cross, a leading voluntary agenfy, c'hartered and authorized by Congress to act in times of need, providing compassionate
assistance to peopk afflicted by personal, local or national disasters; and
WHEREAS, the ~4me6can Red Cross t3q Area last year helped 700families dming local disasters last year alone; and
WHEREAS, Red Cross volunteers' responded to more than 600 disasters last year-providing food, clothin~ shelter and mental health
support; and
WHEREAS, peopk have counted on the Red Cross for the information and skills they need to be safe at home, at work, at school and atplay.
Last year, the ~4metican Red Cross Bay Area trained nearly 75,000 people in lifesaving CPR and first aid, water safety and community
preparedness; and
WHEREAS, Red Cross staff deploy with the U.S. milita7 to provide emergenfy communications and a canna presence to service men and
women separated from thdr families; and
WHEREAS, Red Cross Blood Services support 34 Bay Area ho~itals~ providing them with more than !60,000 units of red cells, platekts
and plasma to patients in need; and
WHEREAS, in !943, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt called upon the American peopk with this request; "...that during this month
ourpeopk rededicate themselves to the spkndid aims and activities tithe Red Cross."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Janet Lockhart, Mayor ti Dublin, on bahai' ti the entire City Council, do
