In May 2003 the City Council awarded the contract for underpass lighting to Columbia Electric, Inc. The project installed a row of fluorescent light fixtures above the murals on the freeway underpass walls. The color of the lighting approximates daylight so that the colors of the murals are not affected. The project also provided for a dimming control to enable the lighting to be dimmed at night. One minor change order was incurred during the course of the lighting in~stallation. The work is now complete. Staff recommends that the City Council accept the improvements constructed under Contract 03-04 and authorize final payment to Columbia Electric, Inc., less retention to be paid in 35 days if no subcontractor claims are received.
