HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.3 ProcNat'lLibraryWeek A PROCLAMAWON OF THE CITY COUNCIL CITY OF DUBLIN C.4 [ .[FO RNIA WHEREAS, our nation's public, academic' and school librades provide equity of access to library users nationwide no matter their age, income and sodoeconomic background; and WHEREAS; librades play a vital rok in providing'millions of peopk with the resources they need to live, learn and work in the 21~' century; and WHEREAS, libraries are changing and dynamic places and librarians are the ultimate search engine, helping people of all ages find the information they need in ptint and online; and WHEREAS, libraries bdngyou a world of knowledge bolh in person and online, as well as personal service and assistance in finding tvhat you need, when you need it; and WHEREAS, libraries are a key player in the national discourse on inlellectual freedom, equity of access, and narrowing the "digital divide'7 and WHEREAS, awareness and suppor~ must be increased for libraries, librarians and library workers by raising their visibility in a positive context and by communication clearly and strongql why libraries are both unique and valuabk and how librariansprovide the information literay skills thatpeople need to succeed throughout life; and WHEREAS, more individuals must be recruited to the profession of librarianship and to work in libraries to maintain their vitality in today's changing workplace. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I Janet Lockhart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Coundl do hereby proclaim April 18- 24, 2004, "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" in the City of Dublin, California, and encourage all residents to take advantage of the variety of library resources availabk and be thankful for the valuable set'vices that are made availabk by our librarians and library workers.
