DESCRIPTION: The Traffic Safety Committee recently reviewed photographs
(Attachment 3) of a large truck parked on the east side of Village Parkway north of Dublin Boulevard in
rront of the Wendy's and Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. The location of this parked truck presented
a problem for two reasons: reduced sight distance for drivers exiting the restaurant driveway, and the
obstruction of V-turns (southbound to northbound) at the intersection of Dublin BoulevardNillage
Parkway. It has been noted that trucks are parked there rrequently and that safety would be improved by
prohibiting the parking oflarger vehicles.
This item was first introduced to the City Council for review and consideration on August 17, 2004. The
Council acted to continue this item to the September 7,2004, meeting, and Staff was directed to consult
with businesses adjacent to the impacted parking zone and report back to the Council during the
September 7th meeting.
Staff subsequently met on August 18, 2004, with the managers of the two adjacent restaurants to discuss
the proposal to prohibit on-street parking by larger vehicles in front of the restaurant properties on Village
Parkway. Both managers concurred with Staff's recommendation to implement this parking restriction
and expressed satisfaction with the effort to preserve sight distance for vehicles exiting the restaurants.
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the resolution prohibiting parking for vehicles over 20 feet
long on the east side of Village Parkway between Dublin Boulevard and the first driveway, a distance of
142 feet.
