DESCRIPTION: Alameda County voters (81.5%) approved a ballot initiative in
November 2000 to continue a Yz-cent transportation sales tax to implement a 20-year expenditure plan to
fund transportation improvements and services in the County (Measure B). As a result of Measure B,
Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority (ACTIA) was formed, made up of 11 elected
officials from within Alameda County, to administer the Measure B program. Measure B also provided
that a Citizens Watchdog Committee (CWC) reviews all expenditures of ACTIA and issue annual reports
to inform County residents how the funds are being spent.
The Public Works Department is responsible for the expenditure and reporting of the City's allocation of
Measure B funds. Approximately 60% of the ACTIA Measure B funds are distributed to the local
jurisdictions. The City currently receives approximately $256,700 for local street improvements and
$80,000 for bicycle and pedestrian projects annually.
The presentation by Staff and ACTIA will provide to the Council, an overview ofthe Measure B program.
Staff recommends that the City Council receive and accept the presentation and provide any comments.
