WHEREAS, the family, se~wng as the primay source of/om, identity, self-esteem and support, is the ney foundation o_four communities and
our state; and
WHEREAS, in California there are children and youth in.foster care being provided ~vith a safe, secure and stable home along with the
compassion and nurture of a foster family; and
WHEREAS, foster families who open their homes and hearls to children whose families are in oisis, play a vital rok helping children and
families heal and reconnect and launching children into successful adulthood; and
WHEREAS, dedicated foster families fi'equently adopt foster children, resulting in a greater need for more foster families; and
WHEREAS, there are fewer licensed foster homes and tomy more children in need today than traen~ years ago, increasing the need for foster
families even more; and .
. WHEREAS. there are numerous individuals, public andpffvate organizations worki~ to in6rease public awareness of the children in foster
care as well as the endmi~ and valuabk contribution of fosterparen& ~nd the foster care "system"is only as good as those who ~hoose to be a
part of it.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Janet Lockhan, Mayor (Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby
proclaim the month of May 2003 as "FOSTER C~IR~5 MONTH" in the Ci~ of Dublin and urge all dtiv(ens to volunteer their talents and
energies on behalf of children in .foster care, foster parents and the child welfare professional sta~ working with them during this month and
throughout the year.
