DUBLIN, C,4LIFORNI~d
WHEREAS, the California Department of Housing and the Association of Ba_y Area Governments have determined that a/mo)t 10,000 new
units of aJ~brdabk housing i? needed over the next 5years in order to meet the needs.of Alameda Counties ye{7 lo,; income population; and
WHEREAS, the Alameda Coun[y t3oard of Supervisors has declared Alameda County in a housing state-of-emergency; and
WHEREAS, decent, safe and affordabk housing ~s one of the basic necessilies of life; and
WHEREAS, affordabk housing is of vilal importance to the health and ~vell-being of Alameda County residents; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands of Californians live in overcrowded, substandard and otherwise inadequate housin3' and
WHEREAS, hundreds of thousands more are paying over 30% of their income for housing and often over 50% and are at significant risk of
losing their housing and becoming home/ess; and ~
WHEREAS. thou.~'ands of units of affordable housing have been built b~y non-profit developers in the State of California; and
WHEREAS. these ~brdabk ho~sing um'ls are me3managed, me//-mainlained and ~re conl~Sbuting to the communities in which they are
/ocaled; and
WHEREAS, ~ast Bay Housing Organi~alions and similar o~ani.~atwns have orgam~ed events during/his meek lo acknowledge the need?hr
and contributions of a~ordabk housing.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, lanet Lockhart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City Council, do hereby
proclaim the week of May 29, 2003 to lune 5, 2003, as AFFORDABLE HOUSING WEEK in the Ci~ of Dublin, and calls upon -.
all residents of Dublin to karn about and honor the contributions of affordabk housing b~y parti~ipating in activities held throughoul the week to ~
commemorate this observance. :1~
