CITY OF DUBLIN

among our greatest blessings. Tragically, for many Americans, these blessings are tarnished by domestic violence and
fear; and
WHEREAS, growing up in a home where there is domestic violence predisposes children to become abusive or abused
in their own adult relationships; and
WHEREAS, women are not the only targets of domestic violence; children, men and the elderly are also among the
victims; and
WHEREAS, many concerned organizations and individuals have emerged to confront this crisis; shelter and crisis line
workers, law enforcement, healthcare providers, clergy and other concerned citizens are working to end domestic
violence; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dublin recognizes the compassion and dedication of these volunteers and professiOnals and
their efforts to increase public understanding of this important problem.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Janet Lockhart, Mayor of Dublin, on behalf of the entire City
Council, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2003 as "Domestic Violence Awareness Month" and urge all
citizens to become aware of the tragedy of domestic violence, to support those who are working toward its end, and to
