FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Authorize City's participation in the "Champions of Small
City Management" selection process.
Authorize an additional appropriation of $24,000 from
Unallocated Reserves in the event that the City of Dublin is
selected.
No funding is currently included in the City's 2003-2004 Budget for
this project. A budget change in the amount of $24,000 from
Unallocated Reserves would be required.
DESCRIPTION: This week the City was contacted by Pat Summera!l Productions
regarding an opportunity to participate in its "Champions of Small City Management" program. This
year's program will feature and recognize 8 cities with a population between 10,000 and 50,000, who
exemplify providing services of excellence to their' communities.
As indicated in the attached letter, the announcement of the award for each selected city will be aired in a
single 2-minute profile on CNN's Headline News NetWork. Pat Summerall Productions will also produce
a 5-minute residual video for the City's use which will also be netcast to Forbes.com for one 24-hour
period. Arrangements can be made to stream the video to the City's website. The listing of selected cities
will also be published in Forbes Magazine in 2004.
Pat Summerall Production Staffhave contacted City Staffand have indicated that the City of Dublin has
made its short list after considering approximately 150 cities. If the City of Dublin was selected as one of
the 8 cities to receive the award, the City would need to allocate some Staff time for a few days to assist in
the production of the segment, and the City would need to contribute $24,000 toward production
expenses.

This certainly is an opportunity to market the City to potential businesses and residents. If the City
Council is interested in pursuing this opportunity and the City is selected for an award, an additional
budget authorization would be required in the amount of $24,000 from Unallocated Reserves.
Recommendation:
It is Staff's recommendation that the City Council authorize the City's participation in Pat Summerall's
"Champions of Small City Management" selection process and authorize an additional appropriation in
the amount of $24,000 from Unallocated Reserves if the City is selected.
