HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 3.5 ChildAbusePreventMo610-50 BLUE RIBBON CAMPAIGN CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH PROCLAMATIONS lY/hereas, the purpose of this proclamation is to call attention to and to increase the awareness of the need far child abuse prevention; Whereas, child abuse prevention is a community problem and finding solutions depends on involvement among people throughout the community including the courts; Whereas, statistics of chiMren who are abused and neglected escalate each year. In Alameda County, the number of reJ~rrals to the Child Abuse Hotline in 2001 were 17,000; Whereas, the eflbcts of child abuse are J~It by whole communities, and need to be addressed by the entire community; Whereas, ejects'ye child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships created among the courts, social service agencies, schools, religious organizations, law enJf~rcement agencies, and the business community; Whereas, child abuse is a community, statewide and nationwide crime which impacts children and families j(kom all cultural, ethnic, religious and socio-economic groups; Whereas, if our children are to become productive members of society, they need a childhood j~ee j~om neglect, physical abuse, sexUal molestation and exploitation; Whereas, it is understood that early detection, intervention and treatment are essential to successfidly interrupting the generational cycle of child abuse; Now, 2rbereJ3re, be it resolved that I, Mayor Janet Lockhart, do hereby proclaim the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and call upon all citizens to increase their participation in eflfrts to prevent chiM abuse, thereby strengthening the communities in which we live. sO, (j
