SUBJECT: Recognition of 2002 Dublin Pride Week Poster Contest Winners,
"Make a Difference in Dublin" Volunteer Organizations and
"Donate-a-Tree" Program Participants

DESCRIPTION:
Dublin Pride Week Poster COntest
All students in the City of Dublin were invited to participate in this year's Dublin Pride Week Poster
Contest° The students were asked to create posters that reflected this year's theme "20 Years of Dublin
Pride". Over 100 entries were submitted with all entries receiving certificates of appreciation. The City
awards first and second prizes to individuals from each school in grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-12 as well as an
overall grand prize winner. The grand prize winner receives a $100 Target gift certificate, first prize
winners receive a $30 Target gift certificate and second prize winners receive a $15 Target gift certificate.
The grand prize and first prize winners also have their posters displayed at the Civic Center and will be
presented with certificates of merit. The grand prize and first prize winners are as follows:

"Make a Difference in Dublin" Pro,|eets
There were several organizations and individuals in the City that volunteered significant time and
resources to community clean up and beautification projects. The following "Make A Difference in
Dublin" projects were completed as part of the 2002 Dublin Pride Week events.
Creek Clean-Up :
The Dublin Lion's Club, the Tri-Valley Teen Group, thc Dublin High School Leadership class, the Dublin
Leo Club as well as many families and individuals participated in a large creek clean up along Alamo
Creek. Volunteers met at Alamo Creek Park and were treated to a barbecue provided by the City, the
Lion's Club and Safeway following the clean-up.
Storm Drain Painting
The Dublin 4-H Club painted dozens of storm drains throughout the City with the words "No Dumping -
Drains to Bay."
Kaleidoscope Project
Stan Ostrowski and Bovis Corporation as well as other subcontractors completed needed facility
improvements at the Dublin Easter Seals Kaleidoscope Center including the demolition of the old
structure and gazebo and repavement of the play area. Livermore Dublin Disposal provided the debris
collection and recycling services for the project at no cost. Approximately 192 tons of demolition debris
was recycled from the project.
Senior Yard Clean-up and Repair Projects
John Morrison, a Dublin resident completed projects at two senior homes. The projects included weeding,
priming, and gate and fence repairs.
In recognition of their outstanding efforts, these groups and individuals will be presented with certificates
of appreciation for their support of 2002 Dublin Pride Week events.
Donate-a-Tree Program
For the City's 20th anniversary, the City began a new Dublin Pride Week program that encouraged
community groups, businesses and individuals to purchase a tree that would be planted in a City park or
open space. After consulting with City staff, the donor is able to select the desired tree and location. The
following is a list of those participating in the program.
