SUBJECT: Dublin Sports Grounds Renovation Phase II Authorization to Bid

RECOMMENDATION:. Authorize Staff to advertise for bids.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Engineer's Estimate $776,832 Project Budget $755,563
DESCRIPTION: On April 2, 2002, the City Council approved the schematic design
for the improvements to the Dublin Sports Grounds and authorized the Consultant to proceed with the
preparation of construction documents. Over the preceding ten weeks, the Consultants have developed
the Drawings 'and Specifications that have been reviewed by both the City of Dublin and Dublin San
Ramon Services District.
Upon approval of .the 2002-2003 City of Dublin budget, the construction budget for this project is
$755,563. Based on the completed construction documents the cost estimate is $776,832 which is
$21,269 over the anticipated budget. In order to offset the potential cost differential, two bid alternates
have been included in the bid package and are as follows:
Decrease
1) Delete a secondary 8" diameter storm drainpipe -$30,000
within the swale that parallels Interstate 580.
2) Change sod turf at the soccer field to seeded turf - $18,945
and increases the length of the maintenance period
from 60 calendar days to 90 calendar days.
If in the event that the bids come in lower than the construction-budget, a third alternate has been
included that requires changing all seeded areas shown in base bid to sodded turf and reducing the
maintenance period from 90 calendar days to 60 calendar days. If Alternate #3 is included in the project
the estimated cost of this alternate would be $16,968.
Bids are scheduled for opening on July 24th 2002 and award of contract is anticipated at the August 6th
2002 City Council meeting. It is the recommendation of Staff that City Council authorize Staff to
advertise the Dublin Sports Grounds Project for bids.
