SUBJECT: Civic Center Library Furniture Request For Proposals

FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Budget for Library Furniture $ 565,000
Preliminary Estimate $ 559,075
DESCRIPTION: The City Council authorized the Award of Bid for the Civic Center
Library at the May 15, 2001 Council meeting. At that Same meeting the Council approved the furniture
selection for the Library. The project is now under construction and the schedule requires that the Library
Furnishings Proposal be released in order for production dates to meet the overall move in schedule for
the Library opening. It is anticipated that this portion of the work will take approximately 120 days.
The Library Furnishings Request for Proposal is the first of two furniture packages for the Library. This
package consists of all of the reading tables, web-pac stations, circulation desk, reference desk, seating
and lounge chairs for the library's public spaces. The second package will include the workstations, filing
systems, shelving, etc, for the Library staff areas. It is anticipated that this Request for Proposals will be
issued in July of 2002.
Furniture materials samples will be available for review at the City Manager's Office Reception area.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is the recommendation of Staffthat the City Council take the following action;
1. Authorize Staff to solicit bids for Library Furnishings for the new Library.
