FINANCIAL STATEMENT: The budget for improvements is $82, SSO. Since the new shingles
contain recycled material, approximately 1 S% of the project budget
was funded by a recycling grant received from Alameda County
Waste Management Authority.
DESCRIPTION: The 2002-2007 Capital Improvement Program includes the Dublin
Swim Center Roof Replacement Project. Plans and specifications have been prepared for the project and
the project is ready to be advertised for bids.
The roof at the Swim Center is the original roof and was installed in 1973. The roof has begun to leak and
the shingles are failing. Additionally, the skylight on top of the building is cracked and the wood parapet
surrounding the skylight is rotting. The roof shingles will be replaced with the same type of shingles
installed on the new Mechanical Building in Fiscal Year 1999-2000. These shingles are made from
recycled product and have a 50-year life. The new shingles will also be installed on the snack bar so that
all three buildings on the site will have a uniform appearance. In addition to replacing the roof shingles,
the rotted parapet will be removed and a new skylight will be installed, as well as roof exhaust fans to
improve air circulation in the building. Staff had an architect develop the plans and specifications for the
project and structural engineer has reviewed the roof structure to insure it will support the weight of the
new shingles.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the advertising of Contract 02-13 for bids.
