Foss Economic Development Director ATTACHMENTS: 1. Letter from Dublin Chamber of Commerce ( 12-21-2000) RECOMMENDATION:/~ It is staffs recommendation that the City Council waive the banner installation fee for the Dublin Chamber of Commerce for their 2001 Business Faire. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None. DESCRIPTION: On February 27, 2001, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the 2001 Business & Job Faire at the Monarch Hotel - Best Western. The purpose of the event is to showcase chamber members in a forum that will allow them to introduce their products and services, as well as recruit new employees. One of the methods proposed by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce to advertise the event is the placement of a banner across San Ramon Road at Dublin Boulevard. The City of Dublin has a banner policy that was first adopted in the 1980s to regulate the installation, removal, scheduling, and other items related to the installation of banners in the public right-of-way. Organizations interested in placement of a banner at the San Ramon Road / Dublin Blvd. location are required to pay an encroachment fee ($50) as well as the cost of installation (using City crews or by professional installer). The installation fee for city crews requires a minimum $500 deposit. The policy allows Public Works Director approves all applications, but any exceptions to the policy must be approved by the City Council. Th Dublin Chamber of Commerce is requesting, through a letter dated December 21, 2000 (see Attachment A), that the City of Dublin consider an exception to the existing policy and waive the installation fee (expected to be $400) to install their banner advertising the event from February 16, 2001 through February 28, 2001. The Chamber of Commerce would pay the $50 encroachment fee. The Chamber of Commerce believes that the 'banner would assist the Business & Job Faire and promote commerce in Dublin through the introduction of new businesses moving to Dublin (ex. Sybase) to the business community. RECOMMENDATION: It is staffs recommendation that the City Council waive the banner installation fee for the Dublin Chamber of Commerce for their 2001 Business Faire.
