Establish Date for Council Emergency Training
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: None
DESCRIPTION:
As part of the 2000-2001 Goals and Objectives, the Council requested that Staff "Conduct City Council
Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) Training and Emergency Operations Center
(EOC) Tour."
SEMS is a system that was developed in 1994 following the' Oakland Hills Fire for overseeing and
managing the City's personnel and resources as well as facilitating coordination between responding
agencies in the event of a major disaster. It has been several years since the last Council member SEMS
training, The training will include a general overview of SEMS as well as a discussion of the Council's
role in a disaster and a tour of the EOC,
The City' s EOC is where all coordination and communication takes place during a disaster. The EOC is
equipped with dozens of phones, a television, radios, maps, and other emergency supplies, The training
will cover set-up of the facility and demonstrate what will occur during an EOC activation.
The training will last approximately one hour and will be conducted in the EOC, located in the Police
Wing.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the Council select a date and time for the training.
